My batstory, well,I have several, but this is the best, one hot and humid night, much like tonight,a man called dispatch to report a bat in his apartment..Freaking out.So another guy and I went to see, wondering what the big deal was,I mean a man?scared of a bat?but a lot of people are scared to death of them.We get there, and it is a weird apartment house, probably eight to ten apartments in this big place, but he lived in this round like turret apartment on one side..old house. The guy is literally shaking,we go in,turn on the lights, and this bat starts flying around this round apartment..well,we didn't know how the heck to get it out,so I took out my nightstick and began swinging at it,like a baseball player trying to hit a ball..my partner dissolved in laughter,as I am a big dude, and seeing me trying to hit this radar guided fur covered curveball hit his funnybone..after about four or five swings,I swear to god,I hit the bat dead center..I mean like Babe Ruth never hit one more dead center..it whizzed through the air on a beeline, and went through a gap of an open window the guy had left,no more than four inches or so..just as if I planned it..I gathered my dignity, turned to my partner, and said "Our work here is done" like a superhero, and we exfiltrated down the stairs, laughing like hyenas..you had to be there..

Seriously if one invades your house or apartment, open a door or window, turn on lights and it will eventually fly right out, just don't be panicking and messing up it's radar by moving all over... ;)

 I am picturing you swinging at a little bat, hitting a home run, and securing your place in bat infamy.

I follow a page on Facebook called "Batzilla the Bat" that is maintained by a sanctuary in Australia for flying foxes, the world's largest bats. I'm sure encountering one in real life would be unsettling, but I love their pictures and videos! They really do look like they have little dog heads!

I had a few friends in grad school that studied bats. I went in to the field with them to do data collection, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed the experience. Despite it being sticking my head in a hollowed out tree to count how many were roosting up there!
