The only reason I learned was so I wouldn't have to deal with the AFM (Active Fuel Management) in the automatic Camaros. Dang thing shuts off 4 of the 8 cylinders under certain conditions. That's no fun!

Having now driven both, I really don't have a strong preference for one or the other. With one exception, stop and go traffic. Prefer the automatic then. Getting out of the complex my company's building is in can take up to 30 minutes some days. That's a lot of clutching and shifting :(
I know what you mean. If I have to inch along in highway construction, my clutch foot can start aching (esp in the wedges I usually wear to work). In normal conditions though, shifting gears just gives me more control over my speeding up...going at higher RPMs for that extra boost...downshifting in sharp curves instead of braking...way more fun.

Kerouac is great. Overrated? Maybe...but for every good review of his work I've read at least two or three horrible, scathing, angry reviews, and it's always seemed to be this way, so I dunno if I'd call him overrated. He's always seemed equally hated and admired.

So, skimom, you needn't fear drowning, at least not where Ti Jean is concerned. There are plenty of people who hate his work. Mutual tides flowing separate directions.

I can't stand George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Leo DiCaprio and all the other pretty boy/men actors: their looks or their acting.
Give me a good, real actor like John Turturro, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Goldblum, etc. These guys may not be great looking but they can play against type and act the hell out of everything they are in.

Love, Love, Love! Love all 3 of your choices! Especially Turturro and Giamatti - two of my very very favorites!
Me too. Turturro is relatively unrecognizable to me from character to character he's so versatile, and Giamatti's a genius.

I used to not trust that Cruise-Pitt-etc were talented other than physically - I'd decided that Pitt was a only virtual Robert Redford reincarnation - but decided to pay attention and discovered that they're both exceptionally good actors.

Add me to the I hate cell phones, don't have an iphone/smartphone group. Nothing annoys me more than the sound of my cell phone ringing. I usually have it on silent. The only "plus" I see about cell phones is that if I don't want to talk - which is often - I can just text.

I like to be alone as well. I cannot make small talk - if I try, I usually end up saying something shocking - I used to be able to embrace that, these days it just frightens me. When did I start caring about shocking people?

I love doing jigsaw puzzles -there's almost always one I'm working on spread out on the dining room table.

I'm a square peg out here in the suburbs - I don't dress the part, my house is dated, I work full time. If given the choice, I'd live about 45 mins from town with a lake and a huge vegetable garden.

I cannot stand reality shows. I do like Project Runway - which is really funny, because I'm not very fashionable - but I love watching the runway - I fast forward through the drama just to watch the runway.

Our's is the house without bedtime and food rules. Eat when you want, sleep when you want. I don't care, just don't wake me up. My kids have never enjoyed sleepovers at their friend's houses because apparently most families make you go to bed at a certain time and you can't snack all day and night.

I just donated my stick shift car to Public Television and got an automatic. He is my new boyfriend. Mr. Christmas Tree ignores me for months at a time and then shows up and expects me to be all lovey. I see Mr. FF Titanium everyday. He gets my motor runnin'.

Who is this Mr. Christmas Tree ignoring my sisterwife?

I cannot stand reality shows.

A-freakin'-men.

One exception. Grandma got a little hooked on a Boston cop show narrated and produced, I think, by Donny Wahlberg. I watched it a few times, and it was pretty interesting. I may watch it again someday.

With that in mind, I sat down one night to watch The Wahlbergers, because I thought, okay, these are entertaining guys, and so maybe this show won't be about self-absorbed people talking endlessly about themselves and setting up contrived situations. Ten minutes into it, I decided I was wrong and never went back.
