I had a big problem with field mice one year. It was horrible.
I tried the humane traps, and would drive them to a field to release, freaked out the whole time. yikes.

I worked with someone who used to put baited mouse traps in a paper bag, then just dispose it it. Once, it just caught the foot of the poor thing. She was so upset that she went out to her garage - started her car up and stuck the bag over the exhaust to 'put it down'.

:hopelessness:

We had a FAT mouse a few weeks ago. The trap snapped on it but didn't kill it, so it banged around the downstairs bathroom for an hour or more. Mark and I were asleep, so my oldest daughter just shut the bathroom door, turned up the TV, and waited for her older brother to get home from work and take care of it. Not cool. It would have been kinder to just kill it outright, to my mind, but she couldn't do it :(

Why would I have a single dead baby mouse in my hallway? It was cool (56 degrees) that night but...one dead baby mouse? And it was just laying there. Dead. (I sound stoopid. =D But where the he11 did it come from? And why was it able to get...8 inches? from my den and then into the hallway and just fall over dead? )

xD

You gave it the horrible cold that you just got over, I figure.

Happens to me all the time. But then, I own, like, 7 cats. They bring home all kinds of gifts.

No such thing as a single baby mouse, I'm afraid to say. It likely has family about, and they may have eaten poison somewhere. We did that one year, but never again--at least in a trap you know you got it and it's dead right then (usually). With poison, you could find dead mice anywhere, anytime. No bueno. Plus, I worry more about suffering with poison than with a trap (again, usually). I don't want them in my house, but that doesn't mean that I want them to die slowly or painfully.

Or worse. You could NOT find them. Until they start to stink.

When I had my mouse problem, I thought I was safe upstairs for some reason.

I woke up seeing my dog staring intently at the water glass next to the bed.
Looked at it and saw a little mouse floating in it. OMG. If I would have sipped in the middle of the night!

And how long was the poor little thing trying to swim? I still feel horrible about it.
