I do this still! I think it was along the lines of don't step on a crack. Preventing bad things from happening.

One time I was unpacking when we got home from vacation. I was about 7 or 8. Vacation was 2 trains, a bus and a boat ride away. When I opened my suitcase a spider tried to crawl out. I shoved it back in, closed the case, and ran downstairs to tell my parents we had to go back to PEI. I was really upset when they said no. I tried to explain about the spider....what if he had a wife and kids....they wouldn'5 know where he was and would miss him.
