I can never hear those words without thinking of how they're said in Monty Python. :D
Same here.

I agree,is there nothing like opening a brand new SK novel,in it's pristine condition, feeling the spine bend, smelling the brand new pages, slowly paging past the blanks to the printing edition page, the dedication page, and the first words? And the reverse,I have a copy of IT that I have read probably twenty or thirty times,it is shopworn, patched with tape, but it was my first edition that I bought at a store,no longer in business,in fact many people in my city never even knew it existed..kind of like my own time machine..yes,I know you can fit all the books you want into your palm sized ereader, but there is nothing like a real book..

YES! I even have a ritual of smelling the book before i start reading chapter 1. (Even i only brought it to used book store) And i love holding a book because aside that it would give me a public image, books are my treasures that i would never ever exchange for money (and also my video game collecitons lol)

In the other hand, my classmates has YA books and some other famous books today and i have the not that famous "Secret Series" (but i am defintiely agree that it was a best seller because it was a very good series). And my classmates were so surprised to see that book series existed and i'm just like ( :^P )

(And i'm quite sad that i do not know anyone who read Stephen King books, aside to my Cousin (who is now at the provice so we only talk about SK thru Facebook and Skype), and their reason to me why they did not read it is "they're scared enough" or "it's not a Romance-comedy book" (i heard this from a student younger than to me that only reads romance-comedy novel, and I really want her to strangle deep inside, but as a good citizen, i restrain myself from doing it lol))

Like it or not, books will be eventually be gone someday, all will be on ereaders,computers,etc..it will take some time, but eventually..when is the last time you saw a corded phone hanging on a wall,or even a payphone, for that matter?Technology will be doing away with a lot of the stuff we used to take for granted..

What about pressure cookers?

....given the recent blasts with pressure cooker devices, and the maiming and death in Boston-this was not only an out of place comment, but wildly inappropriate.....
Really? I'm sorry I missed that - I was going to comment that we actually bought a pressure cooker which I like to use for certain recipes - makes the meat nice and tender

I think maybe Mr. Cranky was talking about whether we will still be using pressure cookers in the future, since e-readers apparently are now taking over for books

I think there is a pic of Stephen King and his family in a big room (it was posted here a while back) and they actually have one of those old fashioned phones - a black one on the wall with a long curly cord - not sure if it was push button or dial type!

That's just a titch worse than my original copy of Different Seasons :) The paper in that one is like linen these days, it's been read so often--of course, it started with good paper. Newer paper is such crap. Books now disintegrate if you read them too much.

As I understand the bins are for recycling, so the one book I put in was recycled. The dumpster full of books from behind the store went to landfill, though.

Oh man, I know what you mean. The whole modern printing process is crap. I've got an original Riverside edition of Hawthorne's collected notebooks, uh, 1836 - 1853, I think...printed in 1896, I think ( too lazy to,go dig it up right now) and the little hard bound thing is georgeous. With the original frontispiece engraving On The Shore, and the pages...wow. The ink almost shines.

Why can't they do em like that anymore.
