Discussion in 'Mr. Mercedes' started by Iggy pop, Jun 20, 2014.
Film rights have already been optioned but I don't have any info about casting I can pass along.
For Hodges I kept seeing James Gandolfini . . .I know he's no longer with us.
And for Jerome, I pictured one of my nephews . . .I have one that acts just like Jerome.
For Brady and Holly, I pictured two of our message board members but I won't say which ones.
...for the Mercedes....
I had a bizarre idea while reading the book, because I kept picturing Bruce Willis as Hodges (even though they are physically different)... so I imagined that Mr. Mercedes could work as a plot for Die Hard 6. McClane would be retired, the threat would be just the killer and etc, I think it could work.
...I thought of Willis myself....
Great choices. Amanda Plummer is a bit too old I think.
Tom Welling as Brady is problematic for me though. He hasn't proved himself outside of Smallville. Would rather see Aaron Paul.
Love your choices for Janey and Jerome.
Several possibilities for Hodges. Crowe is good. Cranston would be awesome - and a nifty Breaking Bad reunion if Aaron Paul was cast.
Bruce Willis would be good too.
She does have the right 'crazyskinny' vibe though Another choice would be Lili Taylor.
I do like Bruce Willis! I think Cranston might be a bit too 'craggy' (I saw Hodges as 'puffy', if that makes sense). He is a helluv an actor, though. I totally saw Crowe as he was in Body Of Lies (with DiCaprio). Grey his hair and he's my Hodges.
To tell the truth, I had a hard time with Brady--his demographic tends toward the 'teenish' crowd--lol. Welling has the looks (though possibly too pretty; I haven't seen him in years). My actual impression of Brady was Hart Bochner, in his younger days. He's far too old now (though, given a time machine and Willis, it would be somewhat of a Die Hard reunion--lol). I have to admit, when actors are cast who look nothing like the book description, it bothers me.
All good choices
I'm watching a movie from about 5 years ago titled Tenderness. Russell Crowe is playing an older cop in it, and I keep thinking of Hodges.
Brady - Jesse Eisenberg (Thought about Jonah Hill too)
Janey - Claire Daines
Jerome - Michael B. Jordan (Probably too old)
Holly - Selma Blair
Hodges - Woody Harrelson
Woody as Hodges is inspired! I was thinking Nick Nolte from about 15 years ago. Woody's definitely got the chops for it.
Claire Danes is just too young. Although I do like looking at her.
I am on board with Rebecca DeMornay - excellent choice! I am finally past hearing her croon, "That's all you need!" in response to "I'm a one-woman man." She could play not-creepy now.
I would like to see Jerome as an undiscovered actor. I don't know why.
I really liked that movie! He would be perfect, in my mind
I like Crowe or Willis for Hodges, maybe Sean Bean. I think John Boyega (ATTACK THE BLOCK, STAR WARS EPISIDE VII) would be a good Jerome. For Brady, I think of Brady Corbett, who was in MYSTERIOUS SKIN; maybe it's the name, heh. Haven't settled on someone for Holly yet. One character that hasn't been discussed is Deborah Ann; I see an actress named Karin Konoval as her. She played a similar character in the BLACK CHRISTMAS remake. Except maybe the character is a bit more attractive, so that might change. What about you guys?
Actually now I'm thinking Sean Young for Deborah Ann.
Not really sure about Janey, Jerome and Holly.
But I'm always imagining the Brady and Hodges like this:
Brady - Ryan Gosling
Hodges - Sam Douglas
This is too funny that this board is here. I was thinking about who would play who after Finders Keepers. Mine are not good, but I see them as...
Brady--Miles Teller (Whiplash)
Janey--January Jones (Mad Men)
Jerome--Jaden Smith (I think he can do it!)
Holly--Mayim Bialik (Not an acting stretch, but what I thought reading.)
Hodges--John Goodman (Listen, he did loose weight in 2015 and the charter Bill is overweight)
Jerome-Steven R McQueen
Holly-Candice King/Willow Shields/Emma Stone
