I was 7 :) I remember my brother and I (he was 5) had dance moves and pantomimes for "Kung Fu Fighting", "The Night Chicago Died", and "Band on the Run". Looking at your list now, I think I'd have to go with "Stuck in the Middle with You" and "Radar Love". Oh, and KISS's self titled debut--I still sing "Cold Gin" all the time.

74... I was 9. Hadn't advanced to pop and rock yet. I started with swedish songwriters like Povel Ramel and Evert Taube and fell in love with Mozart and Haydn in the classical section. A couple of years later i picked out Sergeant Pepper by coincidence from my parents collections one day. From there i discovered a whole new world. Then i started to buy Beatles, Stones and others.
Going back it would have to be
1. Hooked on a Feeling Björn Skifs and Blue Shoes
2. Band on The Run Paul McCartney
3. Seasons in the sun Terry Jacks
4. I shot the sheriff Eric Clapton
5. Annies song John Denver
Album Band on the run.

I had to go look at a couple of lists and billboard's top 100 of 1974 to do this. In 1974, I was 13 and this is what I liked then (not necessarily my favorites now)

I was 4, so I didn't really appreciate the music until later. But, if we're going to discuss albums from 1974, I am still in love with this one: David Bowie's Diamond Dogs

I just mentioned John D in another thread, and I'm going to do it again... I can't remember the context, but on the old boards he brought up the movie Freaks, and related it to the David Bowie song Diamond Dogs. He pointed out how the lyrics mention the movie.

"With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump
Dressed like a priest you was,
Todd Browning's freak you was."

I'd never known what that part of the song said, and now every time I hear it I think about John D. :)

In 1974, I was working my first adult job and then joined the Marines. In the midst of the start of impeachment proceedings, Nixon resigned, and then Ford pardoned him. The Patty Hearst story gripped the nation. Hank Aaron drew all kinds of acclaim and fury for breaking Babe Ruth's home run record. OPEC ended the oil embargo. India went nuclear with the successful text of a nuclear device under a program ironically named "Smiling Buddha." There were leaders (besides Nixon) deposed and plane crashes around the world.

Music? What music?

Okay, okay. Five songs.

Time in a Bottle, Jim Croce
Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Steely Dan
Please Come to Boston, Dave Loggins
Twilight Zone, Golden Earring
And.... Time, or Us and Them, by Pink Floyd, take your pick, although I don't think either of them exactly climbed the charts.

One album?

I dunno. Wasn't paying attention then, and I don't remember buying any albums. I remember that Bowie's Diamond Dogs and Ronstadt's Heart Like a Wheel were popular. (With those Pink Floyd and Elton John songs mentioned earlier, I want to say Dark Side of the Moon and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, but they were released prior to 1974.)

My God, Scott! You actually listened to Barry White? Barry White? Ya know, if Tracy ever kicks you outta the house you can come stay with me? I loved Barry White!!!! I was the only white boy in my area that used to listen to the great black artists at the time- Barry White, Isaac Hayes (Shut Yo Mouth! Well, I'm Talkin' 'Bout SHAFT!), Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross. Good Lord, this brings back the memories......

Remember The Rubberband Man??? Ohio Players?? Rufus featuring Chaka Khan??
