Y'all...... I have to tell you, his death has hit me much harder than I thought.
I have so many memories that I associate with so much of Prince's music. I remember calling the local radio station 100 times a day on Saturday afternoons, and requesting 1999.......rollerskating to Little Red Corvette....... singing Purple Rain with my brother...... where I was the first time I heard Raspberry Beret.......watching his performance at the Superbowl...... and many more.
The man was a musical genius, the likes of which we might not experience again.
It's amazing to think that I can have such a love and appreciation for someone I've never knew personally, but it's there inside me.
Sunny, I'm right there with you. All the way. He was my God.

I cannot stop the tears from flowing.
Very little of his songs are on youtube. I was looking for one called, 'The Cross'. It is not there. I played that song over, and over again. Loved the lyrics, and the music to it. It is off the album Sign Of The Times.
His songs/videos aren't on YouTube because every time someone posts one he has his lawyers threaten to sue (and he's done it about a dozen time). I think there will be plenty posted in the days to come. I'm wondering what's going to happen to the hundreds of recorded songs that he has stashed away all these years in 'The Vault' at Paisley Park? I wouldn't put it past Prince to have it in his will to release all of them for free. I am so much in shock over his passing. Words aren't even there for me to express what his death means to me. He's been in my life since 1978- he's been there with me thru everything. I played the album 1999 over and over and over. When the Purple Rain phenom happened I wanted to scream to the world "I knew about this guy years before you did!! He's going to become a legend!" Now I will look to the night skies to find his star.....

Okay, I'll just say out of blind innocence:

I wasn't a big follower. I never bought an album.

But just like one can stand from afar and say, "It doesn't appeal to me, but there's no denying the artistry," I'll say that he was a musical genius and someone who followed his own vision, and damn the consequences.

If I never bought into the product - and I can't be hypocritical and say that I did - I fully acknowledge and pay homage to the artistry and vision he brought to the game.

Thank you for the memories and influence that are forever yours, sir.

In 2001, when Barry and I went down to Vegas for our 25th H.S. Reunion, we spent a day doing tourist things. We'd been gone for several years and there were lots of new and cool things to see and do. One of them was visiting Madame Tussaund's Wax Museum at the Venetian. We had fun taking each other's pictures with "celebrities." This was one of me and "Prince." This was when I found out that he was small in stature (though huge in talent). Yes, I am trying to be even with his height.

He had/has an exclusive streaming agreement with a company called Tidal. They have all his albums and have a free trial.

(It wont let me post the link for some reason, so I'll post it bellow)

His cover of Radio Head's Creep is amazing and he gave permission for it to be posted on YouTube:

It's NBA playoff season and while watching games last night, I saw quite a few Prince tributes. TNT's entire pregame show with Shaq, Charles, Kenny and Ernie was just talking about Prince and they never even mentioned the game that was coming up. I thought that was awesome that they did that. One thing that struck me when I was watching the ESPN show, Pardon The Interruption was what host Michael Wilbon said. He was describing Prince with adjectives like bold and innovative but he used the word inclusive. I thought about the word inclusive and thought that was a great word to describe Prince. It may not seem like anything now but when I first noticed Prince's performances in the early 80s, he had these big shows that included musicians of different genders and races and he played a wide variety of styles of music. It was something you didn't see much, especially women musicians with men. Sly Stone did this before Prince but Prince took it to another level. Anyway, his lyrics and music like his stage show was inclusive of all kinds of people, attitudes, beliefs, and styles. I thought inclusive was a great word for Prince.

I just thought of something trivial but interesting (to me at least)

Purple Rain was the first cd I bought. Sometime in the mid 80s, I had just bought my brand new Yamaha cd player and needed something to play on it. I went to the record store (remember those?) and bought Purple Rain and Dark Side Of The Moon (which I already had on vinyl). The cds were in the long boxes (remember those?). If I remember right, the cds were close to $20 each (which according to the inflation calculator would be $44. today).
