I read this article on plastics in Mother Jones magazine and it's a bit disturbing. We are getting rid of BPAs in plastic but are we replacing them with worse chemicals?

The Scary New Evidence on BPA-Free Plastics | Mother Jones

It's really impossible to get plastic out of your life but over the last few years as some of this stuff has come to my attention, I do a few things to try and keep the exposure to nasty stuff as low as I can. I never ever put plastic in the microwave. Even when things say microwave safe, all it really means is that it won't melt, it has nothing to do with the leeching of chemicals. I have mostly glass storage bowls for food and when I do store food in plastic bowls, it is never anything hot.

Anybody have an opinion on this trial regarding Blade Runner -- Pistorius? murder or intruder?

On one hand, I can't understand how someone could be so careless as to accidentally do something like that. This story doesn't seem believable to me.

On the other hand, from what I understand about South Africa, the crime rate is very high and very violent. So I guess it would be possible to panic if you thought someone was in your house. But I don't get how you would not locate your loved ones before you started firing random shots in your house.

I don't believe his story.

Breastfeeding past 2 years linked to infant tooth decay - Health - CBC News

This one caught my eye - Two years? Really? I think that after two years it's time to potty train your baby and wean him off the breast (but that's just me, I guess?)

Some cultures practice breastfeeding for up to four years (an efficient way of getting calories to mom and kid when there aren't enough calories to go around). I can't imagine--I'm a proponent, but around two years per kid was enough for me.

I don't imagine those cultures fill themselves up with junk food either, like many North Americans do. I am also a proponent of breastfeeding and wish I could have done it longer, rather than going back to work when my sons were both around three months old.
I think it is the ones whose kids stroll up to them and start unbuttoning Mom's blouse because they want a 'drink' that kinda gives me the creeps!

Here is a weird one. I had no idea that there was this kind of law anywhere in the US

BBC News - Hawaii police call for 'undercover' prostitution law

Oh right - good try guys!

"Police officials in the US state of Hawaii have asked the state's legislature to keep a measure in the law allowing undercover investigators to have sex with prostitutes."

=D

"The authorities say it enables them to catch criminals in the act."

"Critics say it could hurt women who are already victims of sex trafficking".

I think I agree with the last sentence - wow - the thinking of some people just blows me away!

Here is a story about how a Glock travelled from US - New York City to Canada (Winnipeg) to be used in a shooting that killed two young men

Pistol's journey to Winnipeg - Winnipeg Free Press

So even with strict gun controls in our country, we still get people being killed with guns - it is so sad. These two guys were only 19 and 22 years old, and their killer was 29.

This New York prison break story has some aspects that seem very strange to me. Here is my main issue that I don't believe:

I keep hearing about this lady that was helping the prisoners by giving them hacksaw blades. Take a look at this photo. There is no way someone used hacksaw blades to cut that pipe. It looks like a cutting wheel cut to me (also notice there is an extension cord in the photo). Using a cutting wheel to cut a pipe this thick would make a hell of a noise. Apparently, this was done in the middle of the night. How was it that all this noise was not heard?

I think there was a lot more help than from 1 person.

They ever catch 'em...I think they have a case against the State. Looks like raw and unfettered asbestos. I hope this pic doesn't color the jury that will hear the case. Who you going to call? Probably that team that took on the Tobacco Industry and gave them what for.
