My recommendation would be to stay out of this thread and let those who wish to participate do so. We are all different people with different ideas and sensitivities. It's just a fact. I hear what you're saying and I respect your thoughts on it.

That is a good recommendation Dana Jean. Unfortunately, as a high ranking soldier diplomat I must check into such places because to find a solution is to analyze the problem. Also, I do 'let those who wish to participate do so.' I have made my opinion clear and that's it. There is not one being anywhere with the right to joke about or have fun with such horrors out of the past. This type of destructive behaviour will stop soon and I shall continue looking in for analyzation purposes but, without repeating myself. Do you, or anybody here, know the true meaning of 'argh' and the meaning. I do and that is why I would never use it or refer to it.

Thanks sincerely for the friendly advise though :)

Your opinion is welcome but the thread is not intended in any way to glorify the actions of pirates past or present. It is nothing more than making fun of the Hollywood stereotype of their language and has little to nothing to do with reality.

Tell me what argh means.

Sometimes we take things that are horrors and fears and joke about them. It's mankind's way of trying to not give power to ugliness.

Why We Laugh | Psychology Today

An excerpt:

" That in fact laughter is a powerful means by which we can encourage ourselves. That when confronted with setbacks, adversity, trauma, or terrible news, even if it may seem socially inappropriate, we should reach toward humor. We should try to find a way to make light of whatever circumstances make us afraid. Because if instead of focusing on the negative impact of an adverse event or experience we focus on simply laughing about it, actively and consciously pursuing a perspective that makes it funny, we just may be able to activate the most under recognized but powerful weapon we have against suffering."

Okay, for the record, when I use argh, I am NOT MEANING ANY OF THIS and don't put words in my mouth. (not saying this to you GNT, just giving a heads up to everyone who has ever come to this board or anyone who will ever step foot on this board in the future. ) Just know, when I use argh, I am screaming or just making a random throaty growl. There. Now everyone knows what MY intentions are!

Thanks again Dana Jean but, I am an expert on the art of using humor to digest the horrors of war as a soldier, or in any other situation. However, the art is delicate and sensitive, differently for different people. That is why only someone with enough experience with that concept, and directly with the horrors in question, should start such fun and monitor the development. Otherwise, there is a danger that some will be hurt unnecessarily and such people usually do not respond or just boycott the area.

...well when I use it-it's anything but sensual, and is usually followed by a word that rhymes with "duck"....

I think the members here are intelligent enough to distinguish the difference between the actions of real pirates and joking with Talk Like a Pirate day.

That's exactly what I said above. Everyone has different sensitivities to different issues. But I don't need someone with experience monitoring my words. Please know, I'm not trying to be combative here. If someone says something that hurts me, I may or may not openly express that hurt. It depends. And it also depends on the context of how it's playing out. Is it being done maliciously? To hurt? Sometimes many ugly truths are said in jest as they say. But in this case, this thread was strictly for the fun of playing with a whimsical language -- not the ACTS of these vile people. There is a difference.

I don't want to hurt you or anyone. It is not my nature. But, it's getting to the point we can't say anything for fear of hurting someone's feelings, insulting them or offending them.

The thought police are on duty.

Yes I am sure they are Ms. Mod. But not all looking in are members.
If they're able to read in context, they should be able to discern the meaning but if they aren't then they may not have been people of reason to begin with and if we started worrying about every person that would fall into that category, there would be very little to discuss here.

Arrrrgghhh! I just get frustrated when we can't laugh at ourselves. At our quirks, failures, fears -- all of it. Laughter has always been MY best medicine. It has healed me many times through my life. I just can't imagine not being able to joke and laugh, even at horrible things. If you read the article, you'll understand why it is so important to laugh.

Well, let us not get carried away either. I understand your point and there is no right or wrong here. The discussion is for another place and time. Thanks for the small shootout though, cowboy to cowgirl.
