Have we got any Irvine Welsh fans on here?

I've read :-
Trainspotting
Ecstasy
Marabou Stork Nightmares
Filth
Glue
Porno
The Acid House
The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs
Skagboys

I'm currently reading The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins, a totally different book to all his others. It's wrote from the perspective of an American woman. All his other books are based pretty much in Edinburgh, and wrote in a strong Scottish brogue. Quite daunting at first, but once you get over the language barrier (plenty of swearing too) they're great reads.

I guess you know by now Andy is Scottish. I asked what he thought of Trainspotting (the movie) and he said he could only watch about five minutes of it as he did not like the way it depicted Scottish life.

I would like to see the movie some day by myself, however. - Is it worth requesting the book from the library, do you think?

Definitely Neesy. I hope you're not adverse to profanity.

Welsh is awesome. Wish they'd film the sequel to Trainspotting, funniest book I ever read, called Porno. That scene, when Begbie gets out of prison, how he steals his cell-mate's breakfast after turning down his own. Lord, I laughed till I cried.

All that phonetic dialogue can be daunting at first, but once you get yer head around it, it's great. Love Spud, the way he talks, like.

Still gotta read Skagboys, it's on the back burner.

"Likesay cat boy"

If you pick up a paperback copy of Skagboys, hopefully my review is in the back. It is in the UK copy. It's done in the style of Begbie, and contains the rudest word in the world. So I can't post a pic.

"BEST BOOK YOU'LL READ ALL YEAR, YA RADGE *****"

Was over the moon when it got picked.

Like I said Siamese Twins is so different to his normal stuff. But just as good.

Have you seen Acid House and Filth Muskie?. And yes I would love to see Porno made,it was rumoured to be shot ages ago with the original cast, but alas not yet.

Begbie is a god. I follow someone pretending to be him on Twitter, and I follow Welsh.

I can see why Andy wouldn't like it,but it wasn't generalising Scotland as a whole,it was showing a certain (Leith) rough area of a Scottish city (Edinburgh). Just like most major cities the world over it's got its gritty underworld. And Welsh didn't make that s#1t up, he lived it. Renton is pretty much a semi autobiographical character. I'm sure it's explained in Skagboys how the heroin epidemic came about in the UK in the early '80's.It wasn't glamorising it, IMO.

I read Glue; while good, I'd felt it a case of déjà uv all over again. There's bunches of Welsh I gotta read--bunches of everything I need to read.
