Good evening!

It Follows is supposed to be a really creepy horror movie. :)

For nineteen-year-old Jay, Autumn should be about school, boys and week-ends out at the lake. But after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her friends must find a way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind.

Sounds like a terminal supernatural STD.

Anyone who watches it, please come by and gives us your opinion.

:smile2:

It Follows is the scariest American horror movie in years - Vox

I'm gonna be reading all the hype and when I finally get to watch It Follows...I'm going to be disappointed.

Yeh, sadly I think you will be...I was so excited for this movie and watched it on the opening night. Whilst it wasn't terrible it certainly was not in any way scary...and I'm like yourself, it's the psychological aspect that interests me, not gore. There's aspects of the movie I enjoyed, from travelling in the USA I know the country is nothing like depicted in most Hollywood movies so it was nice to see something that wasn't all fake/glossy/shiny...however, not wanting to spoil anything but the female lead behaves in such dumb ways you will either want to scream at the screen that she deserves to die, or just get up and walk out altogether. Meh!

Hi, Ms ~Ally~

Nice to see you!

Dahmit! I knew it!

The female lead was goofy/dumb? Bummer.

I scream at the TV all the time! Or throw various object at it. (Yeah, sometimes I watch things and say, "Idiot! You deserve to die! Die!)

I'll watch the movie when it's either free or someone invites me over to watch.

Thank you!

OH! BTW- have you seen The Babadook? Let me know what you think about it.

Yeh, The Babadooks another one I was excited for so went to see it as soon as it was released--and alone because my friends don't like that stuff. That one was much more interesting but again I won't say anything specific unless you've seen it. I really enjoyed the psychological aspect behind it, yet reading the reviews it amazed me how many people don't understand things on a deeper level unless it is literally spelled out for them. Sigh.
I feel it portrays the descent into madness perfectly, and shows how any of us could teeter on the edge without fully falling...but the right circumstances could very easily tip us over. Also the mind is a very powerful tool capable of manifesting its own demons. :wink2:
Beneath the surface it's a very smart movie.

This is what I posted re The Babadook.

Thanks for posting.

The way I saw it

Babadook is her depression and slow descent into madness. Fighting her depression/monster. If I am correct, that might be why some people see it as so horrifying. Watching someone's mental illness unfold is/can be, horrifying. And unlike a make-believe monster, there's the very real horror of mental illness...

( I caught a lot of flack from some family and friends because it wasn't a *horror* movie. :) )

The mom keeping Babadook in the basement and feeding it. Mom knows she was able to fight off her mental illness/monster THIS time. But it's always there. Just under the surface. And by feeding it, she is acknowledging it's existence and trying to appease it and keep it at bay.

OH!!!! When the son and mom are at the basement door and he asks, "When do I get to see it?" and she answers, "Maybe when you're older." :icon_eek: Oh, psych!!!!

I saw that as a nod to how mental illness can be genetic and because the son saw her behavior, he might emulate her behavior???

Either that or I'm totally wrong.

Peace.

Am I close to what you thought?

Yeh I'd pretty much agree with that...I mean come on
she so obviously wrote the book!
Anyway, I'm going to bed, nearly 4:30am here, but will come back soon and discuss it in more detail. :smile2:

Going to see this tomorrow! I've heard a lot of good and some bad so I want to judge for myself. It's sounds like a throwback to good 'ole 80's flicks. Like Sig, I'm afraid of the hype and build up so I'm going to try and go in with low expectations and hopefully enjoy it for what it is. If not at least the popcorn will be good.

Yes on the milk duds!! Yummy. I did get Twizzlers though ;-D

I liked it. Didn't love it but I think it's worth a watch Sig. My first thought was "girlfriend, go hook up with some random stranger already!" The Followers were creepy and it was an original story. Like an STD you just can't get rid of. Lol. I definitely got an 80's vibe mainly because they did idiotic things just like in a classic 80's slasher. I also enjoyed the non cut barefeet and perfectly manicured nails. Scariest movie? I'm gonna have to go with a nope on that.
