...it's a bit antiquated and creaky now and the acting wasn't top notch...a re-do would be welcome, but Tim Curry will never be matched as Pennywise...he owned that role...

I found a factual error in the movie: Bill the adult comes to visit gravestone of his brother and the gravestone says "born 1954 , died 1960" , but I recall in the book the year of the monster killings was 1958, when Bill's bro died, too.

My understanding is in the movie they changed the time periods in the book to 1960 and 1990 respectively, or so I read. They didn't make it clear though.

I agree, but then again, I think Tim Curry usually owns his roles. Really entertaining actor. He delivers his lines with such panache.

But I didn't care for the movie (wasn't it a miniseries?). I'd lost interest by the final installment or two, and when they got to the amateurish-effects spider, I walked.

I liked the movie pretty good. I'm a fan of John Ritters . I think watching it as a kid the scariest moment for me was the fortune cookies in the Asian resturaunt. I do agree that the ending was pretty bad though, especially with the special effects of the spider. No movie will ever hold a candle to the novel. I wouldn't mind seeing a fresh remake though.

...movies aren't terribly reliable in sticking to the finer details....

...you are quite correct Gpa, I've never seen Curry in anything that I didn't enjoy his performance...and yes, it was a mini-series in 1990...it was a poorly done effort, even with the now antiquated SFX available at the time...so much more could have been done-but it really reeked...the Losers gestalt just wasn't there with the crew they assembled...that's what was the really disappointing factor for me...well, that and the rubber spider...
