This will probably seem silly ...

But last night I happened to be watching a TV show I enjoy -- Modern Family -- and one of the characters (Jay ... a guy some of you may remember as Al Bundy) makes the point that what he always thought he wanted ... turns out to be not at all what he envisioned it to be.

You will hear people say that "art imitates life."

The people who say that are lazy ... and if those people are pretending to be "artists" (or -- Heaven Help Us!!!!!!! "artistes") ...

Well ... ignore them.

And if you can't conscience that ... I would encourage you (without much hope) to shake a little salt on whatever it is you might hear.

Modern family is one of my favorite shows. . ahhh the irony of the "closet empire" . . .

I could go on and on about how much I love Modern Family ... and, here, you've done it again ....

It's no great secret that Modern Family will give you the sledgehammer comedy you need (if you need it), while also giving you mountains and meadows and long wide prairies of comedy that isn't anywhere near the dialogue ... Christopher Lloyd might just be a genius (who knew?) ...

But to me, what resonates -- over and over again -- is how the joke that I know is coming is still funny ... and as cynical as I am, there are sometimes still jokes that I didn't get the second ... or third ... or fifth ... or fifteenth time.

It's a well-written show.

Not a thing I say very often.

Oh my ... yes!

Taxi was -- to my mind -- an incredible show.

If we don't have Taxi, you will never see a show like The Office ... and certainly not Modern Family, or anything that has come in its wake.
