Just got back from work, and we'll shortly be heading to a local beanery for a dinner out. Too many posts (!) to reply all, but in response to the direct questions:

Happy Anniversary - do you still recall the style of gown she wore (I think back then Empire waist styles were quite popular!)

You're asking a GUY about a dress style?

No clue. My mom, an accomplished seamstress, make the dress for Grandma and for the wedding party. The charm of that for just a tad muted by her refusal to put together a white dress because she "hated" white on wedding dresses and make it ivory. Since I'd known her all my life, I was pretty sure of the real reason: White is traditionally the virginal presentation, and my mom didn't approve of our relationship, despite how healthy and close and fun we considered it to be.

Adding to the irony, she wore white to her wedding, when she was a few months pregnant with me.

What about you Grandpa ? Did you wear a military uniform or a suit? Plus if you married in 1974 and weren't in Colorado yet, did you get married in the States?

Hope you have a wonderful day today :cheerful::m_firecrackers:

We got married in June, and I went to boot camp in October, so no, no uniform. We got married in Illinois, moved to SoCal after I got back from boot camp, went and lived in Okinawa for a year, and then came to Denver in late 1978, where I went to school. I got work in Fort Collins in early 1981, and been here ever since, because we love it.

I assume all summer long you spent grooving in the sand,
As the jukebox kept on playing
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band...

We were kinda past the Sgt. Pepper thing, and while we both appreciated the Beatles, neither of us were fans. There were no Beatles albums at our place. And beaches were hard to come by in Central Illinois. We did go to our share of summer dances, though. Man, those were great times.

Well, how about:

Long distance information, get me Memphis, Tennessee
Help me find the party that's tryin'
to get in touch with me...

Does that float yer boat, Secret agent man?

Hi Grandpa - regarding an ivory dress, depending on the bride's coloring it can look more flattering than stark white. Usually (well what I have noticed anyway) it is the women with dark hair who look stunning in white. If your bride was a blonde then I'm guessing creamy ivory was a better choice anyway;

By the way, surely you must have a picture! Anyway, yeah - you'd probably not notice the style, just that she looked gorgeous :m_petals:

Oh, it was lovely, and it was beautiful on her. I have no complaints about the dress, just my poor mom's overwrought drama that she brought in.

Sure, we have pictures - but not digitized. I was 20, she was 19, we both looked young for our ages, and it looked like kids out of middle school or something. Add to that my powder blue pattern tux with ruffles, mop of hair that covered my ears, and we probably did look like something out of Sgt. Pepper. Hey, it was 1974. Songs by Elton John and the Carpenters (yeah, yeah, that one) figured in.

And yes, of course she was gorgeous. Still is.

I am old enough to remember 1974 - Gosh - a powder blue tux with ruffles! :m_adore:
