Oh, it was lovely, and it was beautiful on her. I have no complaints about the dress, just my poor mom's overwrought drama that she brought in.

Sure, we have pictures - but not digitized. I was 20, she was 19, we both looked young for our ages, and it looked like kids out of middle school or something. Add to that my powder blue pattern tux with ruffles, mop of hair that covered my ears, and we probably did look like something out of Sgt. Pepper. Hey, it was 1974. Songs by Elton John and the Carpenters (yeah, yeah, that one) figured in.

And yes, of course she was gorgeous. Still is.
There are them new-fangled thangs called scanners that'll digitalerize them photos.

Okay, okay. Gosh, you guys are demanding.

We are an unsentimental lot about some things. Grandma reminds me that our big wedding picture fell off the wall some time ago, busted the frame up, and right now, we don't know where the original big picture is.

The wedding album kind of stumbled into my hands as I was looking. The kids took some of the pictures out for grade school or middle school presentations about their family. So we're missing a bunch of those pictures.

But here's one that remains. I took this shot of the old photo with my cellphone and resized it.

Left to right is Grandma's late mom; her late stepdad; the Stunning Blonde; the dufus character; my late mother; my late father.

And I'm old enough and snarky enough now to think about the photographer, "Really? You posed us to have a crucifix growing out of my head?" But at least I'm not impolite enough to mention shadow control.

I colored Grandma's hair last night. That in itself is nothing special. We do this every few weeks because she prefers blonde over gray, and I prefer to keep my blonde lady that I started going out with in 1970. After she was color-refreshed and showered, her hair was shining in the light, and doggone if she's not still my prom queen.

Back then, as our romance blossomed, I looked at "Summer Rain" as our theme song, especially when it came to her:

She stepped out of a rainbow
Golden hair shining like moonglow
Warm lips, soft as her soul
Sitting here by me, now
She's here by me

The relationship was formalized a few years later in our Illinois hometown. It was a great effort of family and friends with the wedding, reception, party, and general festivities. We were going to drive through much of the night to get close to our honeymoon spot, camping in Cumberland Gap. We made as far as a Best Western about an hour out of town. We did get to the campground the next day.

Time passed with its moving around the country and the world, with all its adventures, and still that same theme song holds:

She wants to live in the Rockies
She says that's where we'll find peace
Settle down, raise up a family
One to call our own, yeah
We will have a home

We have lived in Colorado since 1978. We have found our measure of peace, settled down some, raised a family to call our own, and yeah, we have a home.

As I write this, it promises to be a hot summer day, but that's what happens when you're married in June. Still, the song holds.

Winter snows drift by my window
North wind blowing like thunder
Our love is burning like fire
She's here by me, yeah
She's here by me
Let tomorrow be

Happy 43rd Anniversary to the lady known as Grandma. I love you, heart o' mine.
Happy anniversary to you both!

I was 20, she was 19. We were both technically adults (who couldn't legally drink alcohol).

A bunch of people in our crowd got married young, i.e., within one to four years out of high school. Of all of them, two of us are still in our original marriages. I'm not saying that as good or bad or anything. Just interesting. And I am incredibly lucky.
