Hi all
I went and got my pathology on Tuesday, it's not that good, stage IV. I should be starting chemo within a few weeks so just waiting now on that. I've seen a few positive stories about stage IV bowel cancer so it gives me some hope. At first the Doctor's thought that the cancer had started in the ovaries and gone to the bowel but it's the other way around. So definitely a new cancer and not related to breast cancer. I still can't believe that it's my 2nd cancer in 3 years.
Thanks again everyone for all your replies.

...as much as you can, keep your thoughts positive...the mind plays as important a role as meds do....it won't be fun, days will be hell at times-but remember the love here and let it be a buffer....

Hi all
I go and see my Oncologist on 22 October then I will start chemo. I'm just trying to sort out my finances at the moment. Lots of people have said it might be best to have 6 months off work as I may get quite sick. I am going to apply for Sickness Benefits, trying to sort that out now.
I'm feeling a lot better and have a bit more energy now.
Thanks again everyone for your support.

Good luck and be strong. Best advice I can give you - listen to what your body is telling you, take a nap if you feel sleepy. Don't fight through the side effects of chemo, Drs will give you pills to deal with them, so you go and take those pills. You'll be weak and sick enough as it is, especially days 3-5 after chemo, to just deal with all the nasty side effects. Also, get a room air filter - your immune system will be compromised for the duration of treatment and you can't afford any germs, your room needs to be sterile. Have a box of face masks handy and don't go outside without wearying one. Avoid public places. Avoid acidic foods and common carcinogens (synthetic nitrites and nitrates, cured meats, anything that's smoked, anything preserved or pickled with salt water, artificial sweeteners and color dyes). All in all, just take it easy, don't stress yourself and stay positive. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or just need some moral support.

Sending lots of good vibes your way ((((aussie12)))). As someone who is taking care of a loved one who's going through the same thing as you, I can only say do not be afraid to ask for things that make you comfortable - a book, a movie, a hug, a conversation or time spent with your loved ones, anything at all. Sometimes, we - the ones who are closest to you (the ones who go through such an ordeal) - don't know how to make things easier for you but we try.

How true. My wife is a saint - she going out of her way to make it as easy for me as possible, meanwhile pulling the entire house and both kids on her shoulders and that's with a full time job.

Aussie12,
I hope you have someone like that in your life.

It sounds to me like you definitely qualify for Sickness Benefits, knowing what might be coming is good preparation. ((((aussie12))))

Hi all
I went to Centrelink today and applied for Sickness benefits. The staff there were very nice and helpful and the wait wasn't that long, you hear bad stories about Government agencies but it was good. I also had to get a new Birth certificate as mine was printed in 1969 and they have new styles now. Luckily I just had to walk 10 minutes (I got lost 15 minutes. lol) to the Courthouse and get it.
I was pretty tired when I got home, you think you have lots of energy but you really haven't.
Thanks again Shaitan and everybody else for your nice words and advice.
The Footy Final (Aussie Rules) is on here tomorrow. GO EAGLES.

Glad to hear that went well for you. It's hard enough to deal with a serious illness but to have the stress of worrying about finances on top of that could potentially affect the healing process.
