Hello, my name is Will. I'm from Argentina. First of all, sorry if this thread is out of line, and if so, please delete it. I've been a "fan" of SK for years, thing is, I never read any of his books. I saw several movies adapted from this works, and for that I called myself a "fan", but I wasn't really one. The IT 1990 movie adaptation is one of my favorites things and I must have watched it hundreds of times throughout my life. I was never much of a reader growing up, until a couple of years ago when I really got into Marvel comic books, but I always read digital copies.

So last year I thought I would start reading my first novel, in physical form, with none other than SK's It. I bought a hardcover copy (in english, of course. I cannot stand translations/dubs. 'If you don't know other languages, sorry for you' is my motto as things are ALWAYS lost in translation IMO) and read it in a couple of weeks. Loved it. My question to you, if you may take time to reply is: what should I read next? I'm on a tight budget so I can't just buy a book on a whim if I'm not too sure I'll enjoy it.

If I had to go out and buy one right now, I'd choose Misery. I love the movie and I like that it's not a supernatural story unlike most of the SK works I'm familiar with. Any recomendations? Thanks!

Hey, a fellow comic book fan! I also started with the novel, "It". If you are like me, and enjoy getting lost in a book for a long time, you may want to tackle "The Stand". Or, if you want to begin with a quick read, why not King's first published novel, "Carrie"? It's a good story, and a quick read. I have read it at least three times.

Enjoy!

11-22-63 Welcome.JPG Pretty much any of his books, in my opinion - you should be able to go to a thrift shop and look in the books section!

Oh, yes. I eat asado once a week religiously! Anyways, thanks a lot you guys for the replies. By this time next week I'll update with whatever choice I make. I actually did buy yesterday a spanish copy of Dolores Claiborne for my brother-in-law (he doesn't read english, and that's one of the few SK books he hasn't read), so I'm very hyped/motivated to get another SK novel for me.

When my friends are interested in starting with SK, I always recommend Misery and/or Different Seasons because they're really good without being too terrifying, but if you've started with IT then the kid gloves are clearly off, and I would go for The Shining - particularly if you've seen the film because the book is SO much better =D

...I began my long association with his work by reading The Stand.....the unedited version is a hell of a read, and afterward you can tenderize meat for an asado with it....

Yeah this was my first SK book - fair to say im a tad obsessed with this one. IT and The Shining come a very close joint second though. "Thrift stores" and Amazon are the best places, IMO, to shop for SK goodies.

Good luck, enjoy and welcome to the club. You're amongst friends now :bat::ghost::devilish:

Having recently got back into Kings novels after a near 30 year break, I have thoroughly enjoyed The Stand again and can highly recommend this mighty tome. It's slow but great characters and brilliant reading.

However, for something completely different from his usual fare, I cannot more highly recommend 11.22.63. I wasn't sure about this upon first hearing of it JFK is a very American thing and as a Brit it's not got the same appeal. But, the main love story is terrific, so we'll written and oh that ending... Keep a box of tissues nearby. It will affect you for a long time after. Happy reading.
