Not really, I have always been on the dark side. I sat wedged next to my dad on the couch when I was seven years old watching IT and Pet Sematary, followed by The Exorcist. Now I'm 21 and have burned through everything worth watching. Horror movies lost their value and because I was exposed to best so early, I've been disappointed with the horror movies of recent years. I also wrote all of my college papers that I could on the horror genre with lots of praise! Eventually I may try and craft a work of my own, maybe a short story?

Anyway, I never really read outside of school my whole life. Nonetheless, I researched and found The Stand to be his most praised story and finished the uncut edition yesterday. I found the ending anti-climatic, but overall satisfied with my first read (and a huge one at that).

I splurged on a bunch of books today, not deciding what to venture into next.

I got
Salem's Lot
Delores Claiborne
The Shinning
The Exorcist (I know it's not King, but the movie changed the life of my probably around 9 year old self...hehe...)

I might read the Exorcist first as it is shorter and different from King, but I want reccomendations of work I diddn't consider and have never heard of. I am saving IT to read later (This was my favorite King movie) and The Dark Tower series for later, looking for some lighter reads at the moment. Plus, I don't want to exhaust all of 'the best' ones right away. Glad I decided to start reading and I hope the boards are active so I can share my thoughts with everyone!

I love your name. I would read Salem's Lot first. That is his signature novel....when folks really started to go WOW. The Exorcist is lovely too. William Peter Blatey should have written more horror genre. I loved his book The Ninth Configuration. Please check it out.....funny and sad...no woo woo.

Welcome!I agree with Dana,I love SK's short stories, great way to dip a toe into the pool..also,as a change of pace from The Stand, you might try The Eyes of the Dragon..you will be reacquainted with and gain some understanding of Randall Flagg there, and it is a fast easy read..keep on reading and enjoy the board!

I will second that idea; Salem's Lot for sure. My favourite of all his works. Read it and became an SK fan for life.

tyty everyone. Already 150 pages deep in 'Salem's lot, and still got all night if I want. Probably the biggest upside of being unemployed at the moment... LOL

Great start, I am always terrified of the first ~100 pages because of how slow it can be. I love how King introduced the whole community in chapter three. He makes characters interesting in just a couple pages.
