I do remember know that the spencer flick i thought of was Adams Rib. I remember one named fury where Tracy stars and as i remember it there is a mob in there somewhere but not quite in the way you describe it. Then there is always the classic Bad Day at Black Rock where the townspeople try to forget whats happened. Robert Ryan and Ernest Borgnine in that one too....
Bad Day At Black Rock, a true cinematic treasure, you my kinda film buff...muskrat, you been hoardin' this guy??

I got a summons yesterday! Oh my gosh. I blame you, misery chastain loves co.!
;;D
I don't know how to work child care out, my "term" is supposed to start Aug 1. Once the kids are back in school, it will be easier. Maybe I will get lucky and not have to actually report for anything until after school starts. But then again, maybe it is better to hope to be picked fairly quickly, so then I'm excused the rest of the time.

Regardless, hope it is something interesting!

Bring the kids with you, CAT. :applause:
I'm sure that would go over well. ;-D I guess I cross my fingers that any day I am supposed to be there the first month is one of hubby's days off! I could ask to be excused on the basis of being child care CEO around here, but I kinda want to do it. Something different. It is going to put Brandon in a bind with RJ though.

I have to remember to call my dr office today and ask when next appt is, because I will definitely need an excuse for that day.

It is going to be a little bit of a pain in the neck. But hopefully an interesting pain in the neck!

What happens if you get sequestered, CAT?

Ha! A sequestered CAT!!!
 I don't know!!

I don't know of any kind of crime here that would require that, but now I'm going to worry. ;;D

It would be interesting to sit on the jury of those rotten neighbors who had the SWAT team busting down their door in May...but I would have to say I lived on the street and would be excused anyway. I would definitely be biased against them. It is a scary thing to be out, planting a tree in the yard and minding your own business to looking up and seeing heavily armed cops converging from all directions!

I hear that there are a lot of telephone scams these days. Fortunately I've avoided them............

If you are the primary caregiver for young children or individuals with special needs, write the clerk of courts and explain how, at the current time, any extended jury service would be a hardship to the people in your care. They usually oblige in these circumstances.

I am the primary caregiver 1/2 the week to our 21 month old grandchild, at least during the day, when everyone is working. Hopefully, calling on Sun nights will give plenty of notice for someone in the other side of the family to step up. My younger 3 kids are 13, 9 and 8. So the 13 year old I would trust for a matter of a few hours, (except for with the grandbaby. He could do it, I'm sure..it would be a little overwhelming for him, though, I think.) I am not sure about him being ok for a full day, though.

There was an explanation in the letter that said you could ask to be excused for part of your term, maybe I could ask for that for the first few weeks, when the kids are still home on summer vacation.

Personally, I wouldn't go into so much depth in the explanation. I'd just ask for a deferment based on the hardship it would cause the people in your care.

Thanks! I will have to think on it. I need to send paperwork back within 7 days. I do think it would be interesting, though, and kind of want to do it. New experience for me...I don't get out much! ;-D

cat in a bag, do you know if you have to go yet?
I sent the paperwork back, first time I have to call in to see if I have to go is the 31st. I didn't ask to be excused so fingers crossed it all works out.

Told my husband the other day that this might mess with the camping trip next month. You know what he said? "I'm still going."

;-D;-D

How has yours worked out?

My first day was last Friday. It was kind of interesting. It was an all day affair with a lot of waiting around. They have you fill out questionnaires about certain offenses and then you go into the courtroom. We were being selected for three cases that day. They sit the defendant and all lawyers down and the judge asks if any of us knows any of them, knows any law enforcement people, any of the witnesses, so on and so forth. Once that's over they pretty much pick random jury numbers(there were 170 of us)for each case. About 20-25 per case and whittle it down from there. There was a domestic violence/assault, DWI, and child sexual abuse. I didn't get picked for any so don't have to back until Aug 7th. I was surprised at how random it was.

Good luck to you!
Tell him if he goes that you'll be picking up some random jury member yourself and having your own camp out! ;;D ;-D
Please keep me posted!
