Hello everyone. This is my first post here so be kind. :)

I live in the Caribbean and I've been reading SK books since I was 11 years old. I thought a nice way to introduce myself here would be to write about how I got started reading King's books.

When I was about 8 or 9, every time my sister took me to the mall I would always end up in the bookstore. One day I picked up a book because it had a really kick-ass cover. It was the paperback of Salem's Lot, the one that featured the vampire from the TV series (with the Nosferatu design). Before I got a chance to open it, a hand reached over me, took away the book and said "You're too young to read that." It was my sister's boyfriend (now my brother-in-law). Fast Forward a couple of years later and on my way home from high school, I passed the local cinema that was advertising The Dead Zone. For some reason that name sounded really familiar: I knew I had seen that someplace before. Turns out it was my brother's libary. He had the book. So I borrowed it (I, uh, never gave it back but that's a whole other story =D), mostly because I was too young to be admitted into the theatre to see the film. And I read it. And I was hooked. And then I realised this was the same guy who wrote Salem's Lot. So the next day I went out and bought the book. Bookstores were great back in the 80s. Nobody at the store would give an 11-year old crap for buying a horror book as long as he wasn't buying porn. I read and re-read that book and it scared the crap out of me. To this day, it still does. And every year I would save my money and buy anything with King's name on it.

And the addiction continues today. Over the years I have considerably less time for reading. But there are always 2 writers I make the time for: Clive Barker and Stephen King. Living in the Caribbean, I'll probably never have the pleasure of meeting him in person, but it's nice to connect to his other fans, so I decided to join this Board. Looks like I'll have some fun here.

Welcome Steffen!
I think most of us have a similar story about being "forbidden" to read something by the King.
I was told by a nun that I was going to hell for reading "It" when she saw it on my desk. I figure if I was damned anyway for reading that, I may as well enjoy the rest SK's works ;)

HAHAHAHAHAHA! One of my co-workers (an old dude who's a born-again Christian) told me that if I kept on reading Stephen King I'll get possessed by a demon. I told him not to worry, I wear this for protection. Then I showed him my skull ring. He sighed and left me alone after that. :D
