You'll pass through KY on the way, so get the pilot to hover a bit, and I'll climb aboard.

Happy dance!! I can now definitely say that i will attend this kon! Even better, it looks like i might bring an extra. That is not definitive yet but looks promising.it is my brothers wife that sounded real interested. So i will be there and Hopefully she will too but i need some more times and dates so she can plan it.

Here is what is set in place:

King Kon 2016 July 21- July 24
  1. Friday, July 22: The Stanley Hotel

During King Kon, we have our very own private tour booked at the Stanley Hotel in beautiful Estes Park Colorado. Why a private tour, you ask? Well, I will tell you. It's because we will get the tour guide all to ourselves, and they will tell us all the SK-related stories in addition to the regular history-type stuff that other tours get.

As most of you probably already know, Stephen King stayed here, and this was an inspiration for The Overlook Hotel in his 1977 novel The Shining.

But, you may not have known that parts of Stephen King's: The Shining miniseries was filmed at The Stanley Hotel, both inside and outside. So be sure to rewatch before your trip, and you'll definitely recognize different areas.

When: July 22, 1pm Please try to be 15 minutes earlyish, just so we don't lose anyone. We don't want to assume you're running late when you've actually been eaten by the house. Oh wait, that's Rose Red... Just be one time, OK? If you're lost in the Hotel on your own and you end up kissing a naked dead lady, don't come running to me!

    Where:
    The Stanley Hotel
    333 Wonderview Avenue
    Estes Park, CO 80517

What to Bring: Yourself, a camera, walking shoes, and a change of undies in case you get scared.

Cost: Our Fearless Leader Scott, GNTLGNT, will be along presently to explain all of that.

Note: Please give yourselves plenty of time to get to the hotel before the tour. Mountain driving is unpredictable at best, and the last thing you want to have to deal with is trying to RUSH through all the beautiful scenery!

The town of Estes Park is a destination in itself. If anyone wanting to head up there early or stay behind after, there is plenty to keep you busy!

    Saturday, July 23: Casa Bonita

Scott tasked me with finding a restaurant for our group dinner that met two requirements. First, it would need a private dining area where we could sit alone and talk, presumably so we wouldn't annoy the other patrons when eyeballs and balloons started popping out of the food. Second, it needed to be all-you-can-eat, because of course it does!

So, I suggested Casa Bonita. Built in 1973, it is designed to look like "Old Mexico" inside. It's huge, with caves, cliff divers, gunfights, and wandering mariachi bands. It is often on those Top 10 lists of places you have to take your out of state guests. Considering all of the mountains and haunted hotels around here, that says a lot!

Words alone can not express the Kitsch Majesty that is Casa Bonita. If you're curious, there's an episode of South Park devoted to it!! (Season 7, Episode 11: Casa Bonita.)

The food is definitely food! You can eat as much of it as you like, and after the first trip (through a cafeteria style line and then to your table) everything is brought to you when you raise a jaunty little flag at your table. Everyone loves their sopaipillas, which are poofy little fried doughy bits (like beignets) that you tear open and eat with honey. I'm not sure how authentic they are, because I've never seen them anywhere else (including in Mexico) but they're big here.

    When: Saturday, 5pm
Where: 6715 West Colfax Avenue | Lakewood, CO 80214
Cost: We got a sweet deal, $15/adult covers dinner (not the fajitas), soda and the tip. Yay, no mathing at the table!!!
What to Remember: When you get to the place where you order, tell them you are with the SKMB, or the Stephen King Message Boards. We don't pay until the end, but that ensures you get charged properly and end up in the right area.

What to bring: ***Cash***, so we aren't making the poor server split the check and put it on 17 different credit cards. Ain't no one gets paid enough to deal with that!

I have already planned visits to other friends and places in Minnesota, Texas and New Mexico. It will be a busy time. But fun!

Did you book your airline tickets yet? I want to, but hubby wants me to wait and use Aeroplan miles! :(:icon_eek:
Plus I still need to buy my two T-shirts and get them shipped to a friend's house for the Kon!

Minnesota is beautiful. I was very surprised. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin are very similar.
I Havent booked the flight yet but when my brother and i discussed details it turné up that his wifes family, or part of it at least, immigrated from Sweden a long time ago (her part of it grew up in Texas though) and they are having a family Reunion in Minnesota the weekend before the King Kon! Talk about coincidence! According to my brother the Reunion is located close to the wisconsin border you only have to cross a bridge of some sort to enter. So Ill fly not to Denver but to Minneapolis from Stockholm and then by car to Fort Collins after the Reunion . So we have decided on the route but not the exact time yet. Ill probably buy them in the next week.

Minnesota is not that far from Winnipeg - I guess it is a 'small world' after all?
