Gosh I wish I could go this year, but it sadly isn't in the cards. I'm so happy for you all I could dance.... I was going to say poop a rainbow... but I don't do that LOL! You had better be posting lots of pictures! Have you started a post card list yet? If you haven't, will you please? I guess I ought to go see for myself.
I've got to do a lot of catching up on this thread.

Was the first Stephen King convention held in 1997? and where was it held as I can't seem to find anything about it here or anywhere else.
I would have loved to have been present at the World Fantasy Convention when King was a guest speaker at Fort Worth and the theme was Robert E Howard.

The first King Kon was held in Bangor three years ago. No, Steve was not in attendance. But our lovely Ms Mod (Marsha) was. I wish I had gone....

Scott, Frank and Jen,
Thank you for getting all this together. Everybody would probably be sitting at home if it weren't for you guys.

I, like not_nadine, am looking into saving up to be able to go! HollyGolightly, road trip???????
I would love to meet everyone. It makes me so happy and nervous just thinking about it.
I wish I'd met everyone years ago, unfortunately I recently saw The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park and Boulder in 2015 and 2013. It was gorgeous and plenty to see and do. I just won't have time to save and go this trip. Maybe the next adventure.

I thought I read somewhere that the first one was back in 1997, I think I read that when I was looking thorough that Stephen King A to Z by Beahm. Only three years ago?

The King Kon is not affiliated with any national meetings/conventions. It is just a group of SKMB members, and their families, if they wish to attend. It's is planned and discussed only on the SKMB. A site is determined- Bangor, ME being the first one- as it was all SK territory and book related.
Dates picked-- usually summer months so children are out of school and people generally take their vacations.
Then, it is pure fun. Tours, member get together meal, more fun. Lots of pictures to share with those who could not attend.

The second King Kon was related to Shawshank Redemption, and held in Mansfield, OH near the Ohio Sate Reformatory. Tour of the prison, actives in groups and more fun. And pictures.

The King Kons are more a social gathering of the SKMB.
As noted- Steve is not in attendance.

I will see if I can access the threads relating to past King Kons.

Girl in the middle (next to GNTLGNT ) was "Agincourt concierge" but she apparently does not have a profile anymore. She is hugging her hubby, who she actually met on the SKMB.

The guy in the very middle (with glasses) is fushingfeef - his wife Tommy is in front of him (with big sunglasses) and his two girls - Jillian and Addie.

nate_watkins - has his hand under his face.

Debbie913 and her niece (young girl with curly long hair) are on the extreme right.

Some of those people I do not actually know - four girls sort of just showed up at the last minute and I had never heard of them before - I think they were members in the past.

That is me on the far right - but - I was not actually in this picture!

We got there late and missed the group tour. A former member "kingzeppelin" from England was pretty good with computers and he managed to photoshop me in there.

I am wearing the bright orange prison T-shirt in this shot. I still wear it - it was a great souvenir :chuncky::glee:

....it would appear that life has gotten in HipMamaJen's way, and I haven't heard from her in forever...I need someone out thataway, maybe Deb913 or Grandpa to contact The Stanley and get us set for a tour on Friday July 22nd....tell them we anticipate possibly 30 folks, and it might be worth mentioning we ARE die-hard King fans and from this Board.....it got us an extra bit of touring at the Reformatory when we were there....I appreciate the help....
