When I was nine, I had a cat named Dusty. It ran away. I cried and put out milk for it every night. After 3 weeks she came back. I gave her a bath, fed her, played with her and she slept around my head every night (like a tawny turban). One morning our neighbor knocked on our door. "Have you seen my cat?" she asked.
Apparently I had mistaken her cat for my cat. Dusty had been killed in the road, I'd later discovered. :facepalm:
