This is my buddy Jake, he spent a few days in kitty hospital this week hooked up to an IV. The first photo is of him asking to come home on his first real day of improvement.

This second photo was taken last night after he was allowed to come home. I'm so pleased to have my little Gunslinger back with me again.

Sweet kitty! That first picture tugs at my heart. Why was he in the hospital, if I may ask?

Your kitty is soo cute, hope he improves. :)

Thanks guys, it's really great having him home. His personality is, lets say.... he can be a bit of an a$$hole, but I love him to bits.
Funny though, he's been checking in with me really regularly (not just for food :biggrin2: ) and purring and 'talking' to me far more than usual. I'm really enjoying his extra attention!

danie it's ended up being a bit inconclusive, on Sunday night he was super quiet, by Monday morning he was gagging and threw up a little bile. I had to go to work and thought that maybe he'd just eaten some grass/or was getting rid of a furball.
After work, I noticed he hadn't eaten and decided that I'd take him to the vet the next morning if he was no better. Tuesday morning, he looked pretty ill, and had toileted in one of the kids rooms, so I took him in first thing and they gave him a thorough going over. His temp was very high and he had lost almost 400 grams in 2 weeks. That and the not eating/lethargy were the only symptoms. No injuries, he wasn't vomiting/and didn't have diarrhea.
They gave him sub-cut fluids and a shot of antibiotics and I was to take him back Wed morning for a temperature check and to see if there'd been improvement.
He was no better by morning and had lost another 70 grams over night despite being pumped full of fluids. :icon_eek:
They took him in right away and put him on IV, did bloods, anti-nausea, appetite stimulants etc. They were suspecting pancreatitis and so treated him for that. (that test was taking a long time to come back) All of the big nasties were ruled out.
The test came back after he'd made significant improvement... there was elevation in the pancreatic enzymes, but was at the lower end of the markers... so either it was a milder case, or he maybe had a viral infection that also involved the pancreas.

Anyway... he's home now and on antibiotics and antihistamines that have the added benefit of stimulating appetite. All up he lost around 500 grams pretty quickly. He's making up for it now with lots of chicken and tuna feeds.

Good to hear he's better. It's always so scary when our fur babies get ill as they have no way of telling us where/how they hurt.

Definitely... he had me in tears several times this past week, I'm so relieved to get him home. The vet told me when I was checking him out of there last night that she'd thought he might not pull through when she was admitting him.

Sound like you have a good vet team. Prayers were answered, thankful. Furballs sure can tug at the heart strings!!

My vet didn't tell me until after I was able to take my baby girl Tara home after her surgery a few years ago that she didn't think that Tara was going to survive after surgery. She had a puss sack form around one of her kidney's and had to have it removed. Tara's paw pads and nose were pure white and stayed that way for a day after the surgery. She stayed at the vets for two days. She sure was happy to be home! I had her wear the 'cone of shame' for a couple of hours after she got home, then took it off and watched her for a while to make sure she wouldn't start messing with her stiches. She did fine and healed up quickly and got back to her old bad *ss self. She's gone over The Rainbow Bridge since (she had renal failure) but she lasted for quite a few years after the surgery.

He has certainly had a rough time. I hope he continues to improve. Many good thoughts coming Jake’s way!

I think I remember your kitty having this surgery? (Or maybe that you told us about it after she had passed?) (((Dana)))

I am very glad my vet waited to tell me her fears too... it was incredibly hard going to work each day, I was just so worried about him. The vets are great and let me in to see him whenever I wanted, I'd go in morning and night and he would eat food from my fingers and be very smoochy once he started to improve.

I did post about her having this surgery before. She lived a good long life and was very well loved. She was kind of stand-offish before the surgery and became much more affectionate afterwards. I like to think that she was grateful that I was able to save her and wanted to show her appreciation. The vet did say that she would have died quite soon if I hadn't of taken her in when I did as the pus sack was ready to explode! I, too, would stop in before and after work and took a little bit of tuna with me which she gobbled up! ;-D
