Thanks guys, it's really great having him home. His personality is, lets say.... he can be a bit of an a$$hole, but I love him to bits.
Funny though, he's been checking in with me really regularly (not just for food :biggrin2: ) and purring and 'talking' to me far more than usual. I'm really enjoying his extra attention!

danie it's ended up being a bit inconclusive, on Sunday night he was super quiet, by Monday morning he was gagging and threw up a little bile. I had to go to work and thought that maybe he'd just eaten some grass/or was getting rid of a furball.
After work, I noticed he hadn't eaten and decided that I'd take him to the vet the next morning if he was no better. Tuesday morning, he looked pretty ill, and had toileted in one of the kids rooms, so I took him in first thing and they gave him a thorough going over. His temp was very high and he had lost almost 400 grams in 2 weeks. That and the not eating/lethargy were the only symptoms. No injuries, he wasn't vomiting/and didn't have diarrhea.
They gave him sub-cut fluids and a shot of antibiotics and I was to take him back Wed morning for a temperature check and to see if there'd been improvement.
He was no better by morning and had lost another 70 grams over night despite being pumped full of fluids. :icon_eek:
They took him in right away and put him on IV, did bloods, anti-nausea, appetite stimulants etc. They were suspecting pancreatitis and so treated him for that. (that test was taking a long time to come back) All of the big nasties were ruled out.
The test came back after he'd made significant improvement... there was elevation in the pancreatic enzymes, but was at the lower end of the markers... so either it was a milder case, or he maybe had a viral infection that also involved the pancreas.

Anyway... he's home now and on antibiotics and antihistamines that have the added benefit of stimulating appetite. All up he lost around 500 grams pretty quickly. He's making up for it now with lots of chicken and tuna feeds.
Wow - sounds serious - glad he is feeling better now!
