Saw a great one I never heard of, Hearts of the West, I think it was called. 1975. Jeff Bridges, Andy Griffith. All about a young pulp western writer who winds up acting in old-time cowboy movies. Pretty good, Turner Classic Movies--best channel on TV.

I love TCM, muskrat. Did you happen to catch Gimme Shelter on it the other night?

I liked it. I didn't remember much about that time period (I was pre-teen/teen) so was educational and Sean Penn was amazing. Enjoyed it a lot! Definitely recommend. (I had Tree of Life set on the DVR, but when we went to play it it was Benjamin Button? Guess they changed the line up because the recording definitely had the title Tree of Life on it.... oh well)

I consider Sean Penn one of the best actors of his time.

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Meh. The CGI was annoying and WAY overdone--great swaths of the movie was like watching a video game. Story was all right, and the moments when the actors acted (as opposed to CGI fighting, running, falling) were pretty good. This one was about like the last one--better than the first Hobbit movie--but the three originals are vastly superior.

I do like some of Bacon's films. He played a great scumbag in Sleepers.
One of my favorite movies. Everyone does a top notch job in that movie. I read the book the movie was based on, by Lorenzeo Carcaterra a few years ago, it was pretty good. It was one of the few instances where I think the movie outdid the book.
