Hitman: Agent 47 - so-so action thriller with charisma-free lead players.
We Are Your Friends - fairly unlikeable people doing fairly unlikeable stuff in an almost plot-free tale of I'm not exactly sure what.
Sinister 2 - second entry in franchise with incomprehensible rules about kids and home movies. Overdependent on made-you-jump sounds.

I've been watching a few things:

I re-watched Disney's Enchanted. Good movie. While Frozen gets a lot of credit for successfully deconstructing the classic fairy tale, I think Enchanted does it better. It points out everything that's ridiculous about the classic Disney fairy tale.

I've been watching the first season of True Detective. It started slowly, but then, at the halfway point, it completely changed gears, and has become fantastic!

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Enjoyable sea-battle movie, but not much more.

Insidious: Pretty good haunted house movie. Really sets up a creepy atmosphere.

Holy crap. Frackin W.C. Fields marathon on TCM tonight--BLAM, there's my plans for the evening. Might have to get a little 'something on the hip' for this business. Bottle of scotch or something--best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Funniest cat ever lived. Love that bit when he asks the bartender:

"Did I spend a twenty dollar bill in here last night?"

Bartender--"Sure did, Mack."

W.C.--big sigh of relief, "Thank heavens, I thought I'd lost it."

I had him as a pencil topper when I was little for some reason...

Still recovering from last night's W.C.Fields binge. Dear lord, it got to where I couldn't even look at the screen without weeping with laughter. My lungs hurt from laughing.

Then, after Fields terrific turn as Mr. Micawber in David Copperfield, TCM pulled a fast one and switched to Dickens flicks for the rest of the night. Who the hell wants to watch Albert Finney's SCROOGE at 3 am on a Saturday in September?

True, but Finney is a fantastic actor, yes? Have you seen Orphans?

Whiplash. Enjoyed it a lot. Good acting, good character study. Nitpicks: It went on just a tad longer than I would've liked, and I would've liked to have seen the moral debate in the latter half fleshed out a bit more fairly. (I'm not even going to put it in a spoiler.) But it was nice just seeing a story that ... well, told a story and didn't need a lot of techno-wizardry to get done.

Worth a watch.
