Watched Ghost (1990) on Netflix last night. Hadn't seen this one in eons. It's hard for me to watch movies starring actors who have passed away. Remembered most of the movie, but think I appreciated Whoopi Goldberg's performance more this time around. Probably liked it more the last time I saw it because I was in love at the time! ;-D

I didn't know it was based on a book. The movie troubled me more than most, but I may give the book a read in the future.

Mara Leveritt wrote the book. if I remember correctly she was a journalist who covered the investigation and the trial of the WM3. She also wrote another book that is pretty good about a 1987 "double suicide" that occurred in Little Rock, AR. It's called "The Boys on the Tracks" about two boys that were found ran over by a train. It's interesting for sure.

So last night I finally had the time to watch the Criterion Collection bluray of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive starring Naomi Watts. Let me say up front that this is my most favorite film ever. The Criterion edition is amazing! The picture is crystal clear- I saw things that I never noticed before (and I've lost count of how many times I've watched this film)- the colors are vibrant and alive and the sound is awesome. Of course the story is the same (there is one deleted scene include in the Extras) but with the cleaning up of the film and the making the colors more vibrant, it all adds to a much better atmosphere. Naomi Watts deserved her Oscar nod for her portrayal of Betty/Diane. This movie is what put her on the map after struggling for 10 years in LaLa Land trying to get a break in a movie. There are new interviews with Lynch, Watts and others that are very insightful as to what this movie is all about (but you'll never get Lynch to tell you directly as it would 'ruin the mystery'). I hope that Criterion will take a look at his back catalogue and release all of his films this way.

Whoopi was perfect in it.

El Dorado with John Wayne. What a beautiful horse he rode in this one.

A one two three o'clock, four o'clock Rock...

Blackboard Jungle, cats. Oh, like the most! Glenn Ford finally gave Gilda the slip and started teaching English to a classroom full of gone, wild kids--juvenile delinquents, dig? Cats like a brooding, maniacal Vic Morrow, Klinger from M.A.S.H., and a smooth young Sidney Poitier. Anne Francis lookin too young to be Ford's pregnant wife. No Highschool Confidential, but a hoot nonetheless.

Richard Brooks directs from his own screenplay of the Evan Hunter novel, in case anyone cares.

I want to see this. Trumbo was a very interesting guy. It was just released and Bryan did an interview on PBS last night about it. I checked my local theaters and it's not playing so it probably has a limited release. I even checked 50 miles away and couldn't find it. I'm sure it won't appeal to the masses. I guess I'll have to wait for the blu-ray.

Scouts' Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse - high school teen comedy meets gross zombie horror. Not bad, a little inconsequential.
Burnt - Bradley Cooper as unpleasant chef on the comeback trail. I would NEVER eat at that restaurant - meteoric prices for tiny portions with pretentious presentation!
Kill Your Friends - unpleasant dark comedy satire.

Been wanting to see this too. Movies like thus never make it out my way.

Another I'm dying to check out is Jason Segal as David Foster Wallace in The End of the Tour.

Jackpot-Pitch black Norwegian action comedy. Gory as heck, but it really made me laugh :)

Inside Out-Cute Pixar movie

Argento's Dracula-Hammer homage with a lot more gore and boobies. Pretty good. Blonde Dracula just throws me right out of the story, though. DRACULA IS NOT BLONDE.
