Watched Duplex last night, funny movie, enjoyed it...that old lady is a hoot. Nice to be able to watch a movie again. We had this device that neither my wife nor I could figure how to work it. I think it was built to play movies, but maybe not...maybe it was designed for something else. Got rid of the old TV, too, big thick monster...we were waiting for it to pass on but like some of those big old Buicks on the road, wasn't happening. So we upgraded in January and we've figured out the remotes, have had a couple three training sessions, first this button, then this other button...getting back to TV can be just as tricky. Should have written the process down, you know, in case it is some time between sessions. Both of us have a touch of that Anderson's Disease, the one that makes you forget? The male lead in Duplex reminds me of this guy works the lumberyard in Hancock, same kinda spiked doo, bewildered look raised eyebrows, you know, say you're trying to describe you want one of those things that connects the sink? All the time trying to sound like you have an inkling of what's going on? Drew Barrymore must be what?...older...but she still looks like that little girl. That's all for now. Over and out.

Introduced LilMan to Summer School :) Silly funny, and I hadn't realized how many lines I quote from this movie on a nearly daily basis. Then the first half of Faust. muskrat was right--Mephistopheles is really creepy!

Great movie!

"Wondermutt! Get Bob!"

"I went to jail for you guys. On roller-skates....."

"I'm Chainsaw. And I'm Dave. And we'll see you at the movies....."

I watched
"The Boy".....yawn fest. Huge spooky British house/castle...doll possessed by spirit of boy....hot American nanny....the latter being the only redeeming quality of the movie whatsoever. Skip this one....
this "The Boy" and found it to be pretty good. Not a lot of dialogue, more a character study, but it intrigued me.

Rewatched Junebug (2005) last night. A quiet character study of a Christian family in North Carolina adapting to an "outsider" and the birth of a new grandchild. The outsider is actually a daughter-in-law; an art dealer/collector from England. If you like the show Rectify or movies highlighting the conflicts between the Old and New South, you will like it.

I watch "Hush" on Netflix. At least I watched all but the last 20 minutes (I was already bored of the whole how-stupid-can-people-in-horror-movies-be? theme going on but when the deaf woman started "talking" to herself, I was done).
I really liked this movie. I guess the cheese stands alone.

I only watched it because of good reviews I read on here. But I couldn't get over some of the idiotic things...
1. The killer NOT breaking any of the dozens of glass doors/windows to get inside the house when she locked him out.
2. The friend's boyfriend believing the killer was a cop...until he saw the wife's earring.
There were a few other things that bothered me, but I've already forgotten what they were.

Also, maybe they told you at the end why the killer picked these women specifically, but if it was just random, what was the point?

Meh. I can't follow you there, Anakin. It started to pretty good, but by half way through my daughter and I were alternating between yelling at the TV and giggling at our own terrible jokes about how unbelievably STUPID both the intended victim and the killer were. By the end I was rooting for him to finish the job. :p

I just saw this...YES!!!!!!!!! They did such idiotic things!!!

I went with

He was toying with her. He knew he could break the windows, but he was playing. What bothered me about the windows was, there were a sh*t ton of them, and no curtains or blinds!!! Out in the forest, with a bazillion trees for every perv in the known world to hide behind and watch you walk around in your well-lit house.

I understood the guy believing it at first, but yeah, definitely, why keep listening? No uniform. No cop car. (that wasn't her boyfriend, it was the friend's boyfriend/husband?) Her boyfriend was black.

And the fact she didn't own one friggin' gun. Not one. I hate guns. But if I lived alone in the forest, I would've had weapons all over the place! guns, knives, grenades, a dark knight mace!!!! I would've been loaded up.

But, I suspended disbelief and just went with it. I thought it was pretty scary.

Yes, the lack of window treatments drove me nuts too.
My house has 6 sets of sliding glass doors and I don't know offhand how many windows; every door and window has blackout curtains or shades.
We're in the woods too (police would take about 20 mins to arrive), so yes we are armed.

As for the movie, did they ever say why those women were targeted?

No. Just a random attack. That was acceptable to me. Home invasions happen all the time, and there are freaks out there who just pick a house. And good target. Out in the woods, women alone. Wrong place, wrong time.

That it was a random attack would've driven me nuts. I know stuff like that happens in real life, but when it's a movie (or book) I want an explanation, gosh darnit!
