All the Way
All the Way (TV Movie 2016) - IMDb
I have watched it three times in the past two days. (And I'm not one to do that.) It's amazing. Bryan Cranston raised LBJ from the grave in this performance.
The movie starts out immediately after the JFK assassination. It follows LBJ through his first year in office. He did more in that one year than ten men (at least the ones in my family) have done in as many lifetimes. Love him, or hate him, he gets props.

I couldn't help but to think back to SK's 11.22.63. I got to thinking about Jake going back, but this time to meet LBJ in 1964 to give him information on what happened in Vietnam. Hmmm. That would be an interesting meeting indeed.

Don't Look Now--I'd heard this movie was really good, but... pretty yawnalicious so far. I like Donald Sutherland, and Julie Christie was lovely, but the movie isn't much. I still have a few minutes to go, but I don't have high hopes.

Finally watched The Revenant and enjoyed it. Leo is deserving of the Oscar, yes. Tom Hardy was amazing as usual.
Should I read the book upon which it's partly based?

I saw The Revenant last week and I enjoyed it too. The cinematography was gorgeous and I thought the historical depiction of the brutal life of that time was fascinating. The story of resilience and survival was fairly simple but that was perfect for this film.

The cinematographer also won an Oscar for this and it was well deserved.

I finally, finally got around to watching Mockingjay 2. I don't know why I love those movies so. I didn't read the books but my kids did. We went to see all of the other movies together but not the last one . It was great. I have a crush on Woody Harrelson AND Jennifer Lawrence.

My daughter & I loved the books at the time the third one came out. I was HG crazy. I was counting down to the first film and was all "Team Peeta!".
I liked the movie, but the fever subsided and I've never seen the other films.

I've always been Team Gale - but since I didn't read the books there's lots I don't know. Really I'm Team Haymitch - those other boys are too young for me :m_bigwink:.

I discovered two channels deep in the 500s of the Direct TV maze, MGM and Sony. I like these channels because they play many older movies that don't make the rounds anywhere else and the channels are almost commercial free. The Sony channel plays movies commercial free and the MGM channel has only one set of commercials midway through the movie. So, from the MGM channel:

They Call Me Mr Tibbs (1970) Sydney Poitier, Martin Landau & a bad hair piece on Ed Asner

Tibbs is the detective from In The Heat Of The Night. This movie is not a sequel of that movie except for bringing back the character. So, to enjoy this movie, put In The Heat Of The Night out of your head. There is no comparison. I read some of the reviews on IMDB and most all of the negative ones were comparing this to In The Heat Of The Night. Don't compare it and you should have a much better chance at liking it.

Tibbs is called out to investigate a murder and it turns out that one of his friends happened to be at the murder scene and is a suspect. There is a little bit of a political angle here too as the friend is a preacher working to improve a bad section of town and is campaigning for an important ballot proposition while the investigation is going on. I liked the early 70s grittiness of this movie. The motive for the murder was very strange but hey, it was the 70s ;-D. I thought the main story of the two friends was very good.

Finished it. It got a little more interesting as it neared the end, but I'm still not impressed--lol. I don't get why it's considered one of the 100 best horror movies, but different strokes, I guess. :)

Black Caesar (1973) Fred Williamson (From the MGM channel)

One of the best of the blaxploitation films. The UK title for the theatrical release of the film was Godfather Of Harlem. Fred Williamson plays a character that rises to the status of godfather of a neighborhood. He makes enemies with the police and the mob. The ending is perfect. This film features a James Brown soundtrack.

The Nice Guys.

Quite reminiscent in tone and plot structure to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which Grandma and I enjoyed hugely, but while this one pleased us, it wasn't as good as that one. Interesting plot twists and some "wow, didn't see that coming" moments. Unfortunately (for me) a number of moments as well that were eyerollers.

Crowe and Gosling worked very well together, and the girl who played Gosling's daughter stole the show.

I would've enjoyed it just as much watching in at home.

Wolverine: Origins. Not a great movie, but not as terrible as I'd been led to expect. I lost the thread a few times, but it was pretty easy to pick up again. It got Wolverine's original origins terribly wrong, and some of the characterizations of other mutants were ghastly...but if I'd never read the comics, I wouldn't have known how off it all was. Looking at the movie as if it was made in a world where the comics didn't exist, it was aight.

I should mention too - there were parts of this movie that were flat hilarious to us.
