I watched this for the first time 3 weeks ago. I think Kingricefan recommended it. There is one scene early on that made me jump, wasn't expecting. Honestly, I was really confused. I'm waiting for Blue Velvet to come on cable, never seen that one, either.
I am in the process of watching Blue Velvet.

GWTW is one of my all-time favorite movies. Enjoy NN!!!

Just watched Gran Torino again. Good movie, especially if you're an Eastwood fan.

Saw it a bunch of bunch times and read the book more.
Can't decide who I want to slap more. Ashley wins at this point. Sad clown hair Ashley.

Lesley Howard hated being in the movie, and just gave up half- way through even trying.

Talks in his own British accent, screw it. yep

Caught some of the TCM showing of Gone with the Wind!

Thirty-six years ago I attended high school with one of the world's biggest know-it-alls named Jim. He would insist on such things as, for instance, Randolph Mantooth's family were all circus performers. You could repeat till you were blue in the face that they were pipeline construction workers but he just wouldn't have it.

One of his favorite tropes was that everyone in Gone with the Wind was dead. It didn't matter how often or insistently I flat-out contradicted and disagreed with this fallacy. For Olivia de Havilland's July 1 100th birthday, I want to say one thing:

GUESS WHAT! SHE'S NOT DEAD, JIM!

You'll never see Dennis Hopper in the same light again.....

Finally got the see "I Saw The Light" this afternoon. Two hours isn't near enough to cover the life of Hank Williams, but it is enough to convince me that Tom Hiddleston really IS Loki. This guy can be anyone. This film gets by solely on the strength of his performance. Another of my favourite films of the year.

Blue Velvet was weird (par for the course with Lynch), but pretty good. Isabella Rossellini is beautiful.

Been digging the Duke. Re-watched The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, followed by Big Jake. Didn't used to care for John Wayne, but the older I get the more dig the guy. And westerns...just kinda fascinated by westerns lately.
I think Liberty Valance was the best, mostly for Jimmy Stewart. I've seen most of them, because my parents were big fans, but Wayne's not my cuppa. The Quiet Man was okay, too.

Jeez, your descriptions always make me laugh in spite of myself!
I caught just the last 45 min or so yesterday...if it's on, I must watch (like you). Ashley's hair was what I noticed in the Melly death scene, and then your saying this reaffirms that we are long-lost sisters, yep.

I read the book at ages 17, 27 and 37. Somehow I missed 47. Went to the Gone With the Wind movie museum in Atlanta last week. Lots of memorabilia from the movie--scripts, posters, news clippings, dresses, chairs from the movie set, etc. When I was young, I so wanted to be Scarlett...or Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I had a sixth-grade girl in class last year who read GWTW, and she and I became very close because I'd see the book sitting on her desk, and I'd just have to read the part she was reading, and then we'd have long discussions about it. We decided she was my daughter in another life because we had so much in common.

I'm always amazed at how well the movie has held up even though it was made over 75 years ago. I always cry
all the way through the part where Mammy is telling Melanie how Mistah Rhett won't put Bonnie Blue in the ground because she's scared of the dark. Breaks my soul, it does.

Watched Cape Fear (DeNiro version) again last night.
Am I the only one who wanted to smack the crap out of Juliette Lewis' character? Teenage girls are some of the most idiotic un-thinking creatures to walk the Earth (myself included at that age, my daughter too a couple years back).

I just watched this the other night myself. And yes. Stupid girl didn't see how dangerous this guy was?

Just got home from watching the Independence Day sequel. It was good. There was so much F/X going on in some scenes that I just couldn't take it all in. It's a predictable, but fun ride. Great summer popcorn movie! Take the kids- there's NO sex!!
I've been excited about this one since I learned there was going to be a (was it a sequel or a remake)?. Jeff Goldblum is in it, correct? I think I might just take your advice. Alex has never been to a movie before because he's two. Danny will be game (fifteen), and I've obviously not been to a movie in a while. Now, have the prices increased to the point where I can actually offer Danny in trade for a ticket and popcorn? (And raisinettes?)
