Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

?/10

I don't actually know how to rate the movie. On one hand, it did what it was meant to, which was disturb the hell out of me. A super effective exploitation horror, with an excellent score (like, even before I saw the movie, I loved the score). On the other hand, the real, sadistic slaughter of animals in the movie is clearly amoral. Much of the end product is brilliant, but, man, I wish they didn't kill those animals, it just made me feel guilty for watching. That said, it is definitely worth a watch, even if you hate it, it's something you won't forget.

Oh ick, I didn't know they did that. I've always heard about this one, wanted to see it, but now I dunno.

What seventies foreign flick was it where Donald Sutherland was supposed to have crushed a kitten with his face? Can't remember...

Haven't seen this one. I know it's reputation though.

BTW, the scene at the end of Apocalypse Now where they are killing the yak was real as well.

National Lampoon's Van Wilder. Worth the watch for Ryan Reynolds's humor.

Sleeping with Other People. I enjoyed this even though I'm not much into romantic comedies. Jason Sudeikis saves the movie with great acting and comic timing.

Have you seen "Waiting" with Ryan Reynolds? One of his earlier comedies. On par with Van Wilder as far as type of humor. I very much liked it.

Bernardo Bertolucci's 1900, if I'm not mistaken.

I just got through watching 16 Blocks. In this thriller from director Richard Donner, Bruce Willis plays a washed-up, alcoholic, aging NYC cop with a bum leg who has to escort a witness (played by Mos Def) to court in order to testify against a group of corrupt cops. Said corrupt cops make things difficult, as they pursue Willis and his charge through the streets of Manhattan. Donner, known for Superman, The Goonies, and the Lethal Weapon series, does a great job of directing, as usual. Willis gives one of his best performances in a film of this type, and has good chemistry of Mos Def; David Morse is suitably slimy as the main villain. Sure, it's predictable in spots, but it's taut, gritty, and fun. Three stars out of four.

Have either of you seen the short-lived television comedy series that gave Ryan his start? It didn't last for more than one season, but he was funny in it. It's kind of a spin on 'Friends'.

I never missed a show! It was obvious Ryan would be on to bigger things. His expressions and timing had me laughing each episode. And I love love love Traylor Howard.

There's a 2 or 3 minute scene which is just
an actual turtle being decapitated and disembowelled.
I felt queasy watching it.

Take Care--about a girl who gets hit by a car and her ex-boyfriend helps her recuperate. Cutesy and sweet. Betty Gilpin plays the ex's girlfriend, and absolutely nails it.

After Words--this film has all the things I love: a librarian character (Marcia Gay Harden), lots of books, Spanish and subtitles, a cute Latino guy with a great accent, becoming happy again when there didn't seem to be any hope. I loved it.

SLEEPERS-- Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro and others. Actually a pretty decent little story.

City Lights -- Another Charlie Chaplin. This guy was so amazing in front of a camera. The awareness he had of his own body, just so talented. Cute little movie, but bad ending.

LOOKERS -- Susan Day and Albert Finney -- James Coburn too. Interesting movie about beauty and perfection and the use of basically computers to make people perfect. A futuristic concept at the time, but they were replacing people with perfect CGI. And they can do that today.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me -- Man oh man. David Lynch is one interesting dude. I loved Twin Peaks, so to see the Prequel/sequel was just icing on the cake. For any who have not seen this movie, I would watch the TV show first. But that's just me.

The Legend of Hell House, Burnt Offerings, The Beguiled -- my old standbys.

Didn't you think that TP:FWWM was close to the Dark Tower books theme- Ka is a wheel? If you get the chance you should seek out the deleted scenes from FWWM- there's some interesting stuff in those scenes. I thought Sheryl Lee should have at least been nominated for an Oscar- she was heart-wrenching/breaking in that film.

I will. And yes, she did give a great performance.
