Dallas Buyers Club - Matthew McConaughey

Story of a heterosexual, redneck, homophobic Dallas electrician (McConaughey) that gets AIDS in the early days of the disease and goes through some severe denial before he starts to aggressively seek out alternatives to the drug that was being used (and killing people) at the time and helps treat many others with the disease. The movie deals with the stubbornness and profit motives of the FDA along with the transformation of McConaughey's character. McConaughey is fantastic and gets scarily thin for this role. McConaughey has really been on a hot streak the past couple of years with great performances in this movie, Mud, Killer Joe and True Detective.
He lost 45 pounds for the role.

I tried to watch Haunter on Netflix last night, but fell asleep--no comment on the film, I was just tired. I liked what I saw very much! Will try to finish it either tonight or tomorrow. Twist (told in the synopsis, so no spoiler) is that main character is the ghost, just realizing she is one. Interesting premise!

The Butler, or Lee Daniels' The Butler.

It was okay. I was actually hoping for better. Everyone does a fine job, no doubt of that, but the narrative was just over the top for me. I realize that it was a message movie, but the message would've been better delivered on a dish rather than with a sledgehammer.

Almost Famous director's edition (over 30 minutes was added to the film by Cameron Crowe for the dvd release)

It's been a long time since I saw the theatrical version of Almost Famous so I'm a little fuzzy on exactly what footage has been added but I can say that this long version adds depth to the characters and story lines and the extra scenes are not just some scenes that should have been left in the cutting room. There is nothing in this long version that seems needlessly tacked on and it is well worth the extra time.

This is an excellent flick that is based on Cameron Crowe's real life story of being a teenage writer for Rolling Stone in the early 70s. Highly recommended.

300 - Rise Of An Empire

Lots of 3D gore and viscera and epic battle sequences but it's all sound and fury etc.

If you need a similar experience but with engaging characters in an emotionally gripping storyline, I highly recommend the recent Spartacus TV series. It is Glorious!

I thought it was pretty good!

I watched Me, Myself and Irene for the first time. Jim Carrey is just stupid crazy! I really liked it and laughed a lot.

I love that movie!! I always say I'm gonna make a drinking game out of it (take a drink whenever the F word is used)! But I'd be passed out within the first 15 minutes!
