Also it seems rather unhistoric the movie you described. The finns were actually on the nazis side in WWII. The Sovjet union were their common enemy. It might have occurred something like it before the Sovjetunionen entered the war in june 1941 The winter war was fought between just Finland and Sovjet until peace in march 1940 but in 1941 they contined the war as allies to Germany. Thats called the continuation war.

You definitely could be right. I'm hazy on the details--it might have been about resistance to Russian advances. :) I remember that I liked it, and it had a lot of skiing scenes--exciting movie, but it was years ago that I saw it.

If it was from the 50 ties it might have been Unknown Soldier by Edwin Laine. Considered a great movie. Havent seen it myself . Made in 1955. I can recommend Linnas book that the movie is based on.

The Adventures of Mark Twain (1944). Decent bio flick, made watchable by Fredric March's performance. I'm really starting to dig March, who won an academy award for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Loved him in The Best Years of Our Lives, too.

Cats like Fedric March, Paul Muni, Walter Huston--just some GREAT old time actors I've been discovering rather late in life. They's the real deal.

Sleeping Giant (2015) Canadian film available on netflix

I love Canadian films and this is another good one. This is the description from imdb

While spending the summer in cottage country on the shores of Lake Superior, three teens cope with boredom by testing the limits of their experience.

One of the teens, Adam is there with his family and has led a pretty sheltered life and he starts hanging out with a couple of rough around the edges teens that he meets at the vacation area. It's mainly a coming of age story about Adam as suddenly in one summer he's not the sheltered kid anymore that he's been his whole life. One thing that a lot of people won't like is the sudden non ending ending. The subject matter and language can be a little rough in places (my warning for the squeamish ;-D) .

I feel the same. I've often thought about doing a podcast highlighting these Golden Age actors and actresses. I'd hate to see them fade from our cultural memory. At least my daughter knows who many of them are, I could do that much.

Bright Lights, Big City (1988) Michael J Fox

Not bad but the movie has some flaws. What surprised me is how good Michael J Fox is in this movie. Fox plays a guy who has substance abuse issues and personal issues and he's trying to hold it together as his life is unraveling. He does a great job with a role that is tricky to play. On the not so good side of things, the movie has the great actor Jason Robards and he is completely wasted (literally) playing an over the top drunk. Another misstep was an attempt at lightening the mood with a comedic scene involving a ferret. The scene is a complete disaster and should have been cut from the movie. So, the verdict is meh.

What lost me is the scenes involving the talking baby. This movie was supposed to catapult Fox to a serious actor but failed. I guess the public just couldn't accept him as anything other than Marty McFly. The movie does have a great original song from Prince on the soundtrack- Good Love- which was also one of the songs that he recorded as the female 'Camille' for the album he was going to release to see if he could fool the public. Sorry, but it wouldn't have worked as it's his signature 'sound'.

Peter Cushing, what were you thinking?

Second movie I watched was Night Train to Terror. An attempt at many little horror stories within the big horror story.
This was just ghastly, and not in a good ghastly way. But I watched the whole thing.
