Changing Lanes

The story of what happens one day in New York City, when a young lawyer and a businessman share a small automobile accident on F.D.R. Drive, and their mutual road rage escalates into a feud.

This was savage.

Right now I'm watching

The Order (Dear, sweet, Heath *sigh*)

A young priest is sent to Rome to investigate the troubling death of the head of his order.
(I have to stop watching scary movies at night.)

watched CHiPs over at my friends last night. terrible re-imagining of a mostly serious show into a very stupid comedy. some laughs but not many. dax shephard is hot at least.

what's with hollywood's weird obsession with turning older dramatic tv shows into slapstick jokes? i'd really like to sit in on some of these "creative" meetings to see what passes for their thought process.

Saw Beauty and the Beast on the plane.

It was all right. I liked the animated one better, and this one was pretty much a scene-by-scene remake with live action and CG. I was waiting for my favorite shot of the animated movie, in the ballroom, but it didn't happen. I can watch Emma Watson anytime, and while she's a terrific actress, she was just a notch off of Belle for me. Just the looks, not the acting. Her portrayal was fine.

I had forgotten some conservative protest flurry about advancing the "gay rights agenda." Then there was a little bit of one scene that made me remember - but if I'd blinked, I would've missed it. A tempest in a Mrs. Potts, if you ask me.

The movie made me appreciate how flexible animation can be.

Overall: Not unhappy I watched it, happy I watched it for free.

i am so totally over disney's "let's remake everything we ever made as a live action film" craze. live action lion king. seriously wth? it's such a tired money grabbing scheme. they can't possibly think a movie with no humans in it works better as a live action than it does as an animated film.

i'm sure it's only a matter of time. probably live action fantasia too. it's like the whole creative department of disney got drunk and has been drinking ever since to ward off the hangovers.

I finished watching Stephen King's Golden Years, I like it but I think the ending is too abrupt. I like the actor who played the bus driver in it.
Bus driver:'Ah, anyone getting on here because I've got a schedule to keep.'
Terry:'Hold your horses, Mac.'
Bus driver:'Boy, I hate these side-of-the roaders, they're not like this on the Indiana side, let me tell you.' etc.

I also like how Terry reckons that Jude Andrews, in her opinion, is better that John Rainbird. I also watched The Brood.

The ending is abrupt because it wasn't going to get picked up for another season and they had to come up with some kind of an ending in the time they had left.

I read somewhere that Stephen King envisaged Golden Years to run for 15 hours. I still like it though. I wonder if King picked the music because when Jude Andrews is in a scene they play that 'bluesy slide guitar' music like in The Stand when Randall Flagg comes on.

Gold, with Matthew McConaughey, Edgar Ramírez, and who I thought was Jessica Chastain but turned out to be Bryce Dallas Howard (I'm always confusing those two, but that's because love is blind:love:).

Man, what a refreshing change after the last few months of superhero/sci-fi SFX-driven films. It's a pity great dramas like this don't get the marketing push they deserve, because I would have loved to have seen this in the cinema. Loosely based on a true story (it's Hollywood, you know how that goes), it's a great drama about a gold prospector that takes the viewer from the jungles of Indonesia to the cut-throat dealings on Wall Street. Anyone who likes engaging stories with great characters, check this out. It's also set in the 80s, and there are some nice synthesizer-driven musical pieces that add to the effectiveness of the scenes.

Thank you for your review! I've been wondering about that one.

It's funny that you mentioned superhero flicks: my husband and I, HUGE superhero fans, we're just talking today about how we're very tired of them. BURNED. OUT.

Founder on Netflix.
Story of Ray Kroc and the McDonald's Corporation. I really, really enjoyed it. Michael Keaton is pretty much perfect in this part. I love his facial expressions, his voice, just the way he takes on the character and rolls with it. Took me a while to recognize actress Linda Cardellini who played Lindsey in Freaks and Geeks. She's just as cute now, and as a blonde.

The Bank Shot (1974) George C Scott

This was awful. They took a good Donald Westlake crime book and turned it into a screwball comedy. This kind of movie happened to Elmore Leonard books too. Elmore and Westlake both wrote about not so bright criminals and had a lot of humor in many of their crime novels. But these not so bright characters were still violent and dangerous and were not complete idiots. Movies like The Bank Shot reduce all of the characters to bumbling idiots and destroy the original story.

Just finished watching Dream House on Netflix. I had avoided this in the cinemas because when the trailer came out I was annoyed at it giving away major plot points. This film is actually better than I expected, but I think the supernatural element seemed a little shoehorned in. I suppose that was the two lead actors' grouse as well, because I understand they refuse to talk about the film. I thought Craig's scenes with his family in the first part of the movie were beautifully acted.
