The Birds (1963)

I bought a five film blu-ray package of Hitchcock and this is the 2nd one I've watched (Psycho a few days ago was the first). I've seen all five before but not on blu-ray and they really look and sound great (so far).

The Birds is Hitchcock's monster movie. This is a real slow burner. The movie really takes it time setting things up and then all hell breaks loose in the last half. I love how the movie offers absolutely no explanation for why the birds went nuts. So many monster movies come up with these hokey explanations as to what went wrong but not The Birds. Not having an explanation really gives the flick a little extra creepiness.

Also, the last shot of the movie is really great. I think the background is a painting.

It was better than I expected...but I didn't expect much. I was willing to rewatch today if the grandkids wanted, but they voted for Jumanji so we watched that instead.

LOL! Okay. Son checked it out at the library and I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch with him (he watched Jumanji twice in the last couple of days, too!)

The Birds is such a classic! Love it! There's something to be said about creating so much suspense and horror from such little creatures. You just want to scream at Tippy Hendricks 'Don't open that door!!!'. One of Hitch's best!!

I love this movie it's one of my favourite. Watched it on Saturday I have the movie on dvd and there is a great making of on the dvd.
Yeah there are various paintings in the movie that was the technic back then.
Tipi had to film the scene after she opened the door for a week. She was in hospital because she was totally exhausted.
It's not Tipi who is carried down the stairs she was still in hospital when this was filmed. I love making ofs:love:

I saw that movie as a kid, and it scared the hell out of me. Now there's parts of it that look somewhat crude by today's standards, but it's still really good.

Hitchcock is my favorite director. Someone else might be were I not so old. Growing up I watched some Hitchcock movies with my parents, so those particular ones have great sentimental value for me. But that's not the only reason Hitchcock means as much to me as he does.

Anyway, The Birds is a fan favorite. I'm not enough of a film historian to know whether or not the movie broke the ground for horror movies involving mankind under threat by unnatural masses of animals, but it might have.

I've recently watched most of World War Z. I'd read reviews which disfavored it, but I thought it was pretty good. The visual effects were really good and the zombies were pretty scary. I'm not a big zombie man, so the fact that I liked the movie impresses me.

For World War Z being a zombie movie, you really don't see too much of them. They're more of a sub-plot than the main event. The airplane scene is truly frightening- very claustraphobic and intense!!
