Shame upon shame...yesterday I had the day off as the day before my cold had progressed to eyes watering non stop, coughing and sneezing, though I still felt fine, and my boss kindly suggested I not come in the next day...Code: You're gross and freaking out the patients-dont be here....anywho, the other half had been on and on at me to watch Gladiator. So, I did...long movie...Joaquin Phoenix did a good job of playing a cry baby. Seriously, how many times did he cry? Predictable ending, though for all that- a good choice when you're on the couch and skimming Christmas recipes...

The Last Ride (2011) Henry Thomas

A fictional account of Hank Williams last couple of days. The filmmakers took a few facts about Hank Williams death and then created a fictional story around his last couple of days. I thought it was excellent. It's not you typical bio flick. I thought Henry Thomas was very good as Hank. It probably helped that he didn't have to do any singing :biggrin2:. The story is about Hank trying to make it to a show on time. His handlers hired him a new driver and gave the driver instructions to get Hank to West Virginia for a New Years Eve show and to keep him away from whiskey on the way there. It's funny and sad.

Last night I watched Perks of Being a Wallflower - it was pretty sad, very moving and tragic. Oh the angst of being a teenager! How did we all survive? And if you were unlucky enough to have an issue of some kind, it was even worse - you think everyone knows your humiliating secrets. I sort of wish I hadn't watched it.

I thought it was a great movie. The young cast was fantastic, especially Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. Yeah, it is depressing but I like a good depressing movie :biggrin2:.

"Black Swan" - starring Natalie Portman. Tale of a prima ballerina, consumed by her obsession to give the perfect performance in Swan Lake, and to quite literally die for her art. Terrific choreography beautiful filmed.
Love it!
I also love The Wrestler from the same director, although it was emotionally hard to watch the first time around.

Not the last movie I watched, that was Carrie, and before that the new Hunger Games...but have you guys seen The Butler yet? Absolutely amazing movie. Takes a lot to make me cry yet I shed a few tears at numerous points throughout the movie, as did the majority of the audience from the amount of sniffling I could hear. I can't believe it's only scoring 6.7 on IMDb...I really believe Forest Whitaker deserves an Oscar for his performance. Outstanding.

I agree with you jussupoff, a very dramatic film with a superb performance from Mickey Rourke, but I have to admit I had not realised it had the same director. Thanks for pointing that out.:encouragement:

I have heard that those two are part of a kind of trilogy that Aronofski is making. I can't see any direct links between the two movies (except for the dramatic and dark content), but I am not an expert. I don't know if the third part will be his next movie, though, as it is about Noah. I can't see any links between The Wrestler and Noah...:p
