COME ONE!

COME ALL TO THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!! GET READY!

WE'VE GOT FOUR BIG ONES COMING UP THIS YEAR!

WELL! ACTUALLY! I only think two are offically confirmed this year (IT and DT) Moderator (is that right?), but let's play Devil's Advocate.

IT, Dark Tower, 1922, and Gerlad's Game.

Two questions!

1: Which are you MOST excited for?

2: Which do you THINK will be the best?

3: Which do you WANT to be best?

4: Which one do you THINK will crash and burn?

Which are you MOST excited for?

IT. My favorite King novel to date and the most classically horrific.

Which do you THINK will be the best?

IT.

Which do you WANT to be best?

The Dark Tower. IT is my favorite Novel, but collectively, the Dark Tower is my favorite King work. But they screwed up the casting so bad with Elba that I have little interest in seeing it. But I still hope it is good and I will be proven wrong.

Which one do you THINK will crash and burn?

Gerald's Game. The entire novel focuses on a woman handcuffed to a bed with much of the narrative occurring in her mind. At best, I see a pretentious art film. At worst a bore fest of a movie.

I ain't excited about any of these. Too many lame changes. But, you never know. Let's just say I'm hoping to be taken by surprise by at least one of em.

I have to admit, the prospect of a 1922 flick piqued my interest, a'yuh. Until I saw it was gonna be another made-for-tv--ahem--made for Netflix cheapie. And...Thomas Jane? Totally didn't see HIM as the lead for this one.

But, like I say, you never know...

Dark Tower

Was'nt there also a tv series of The Mist coming out this year?

I'm rarely impressed with a SK movie, i think for the most part (with a few exeptions) they're all pretty terrible, so we'll see what they make of it. It always surprises me how bad Stephen King movies ususally are. In theory you'd think the books lend themselves to be great movies, but the result most often is pretty bad. Marvel can turn a comic with superhero's into a great movie, how difficult can it be then to make a satisfying SK movie...:)

Same here. When you think about it, the better movies adapted from SK works are some of the more "mainstream" stories like Stand by Me and Shawshank. I think this is because SK's more visceral and horrific stories are better on the written page since there is no better image than those projected on our mind's eye. When translated to the screen they become, for me, so pedestrian and silly. SK is a master of the written word. That's enough for me.

Yeah, there's a TV series due as well. A completely unnecessary TV series, but hey, that's never stopped the suits before.

So what you're saying is... you're really looking forward to the Dark Tower movie huh? ;-D (me too!)

yeh steffen, like a visit to the dentist , or the garage, or the feeling you get when 3 out of four of your horses come in and your waiting for the fourth to screw you over and you know deep down, in that dark place - that no way will it win , because you're backing it to be a winner - so it will fail. and even if it does come in and you win the dentist still hits you with the news that your teeth are gonna fall out because you drank too much nozalla , unless you hand over two grand to fix the rotten pegs and oh by the by - you got four bald tires on your Takuro spirit. that's gonna cost!

i don't reckon we win either way with DT, or IT - we all liked the sh!t the way we read it.

but hey ho - let's see what they do eh

Precisely. As I've said before on the forum, when King (and later the EW articles) confirmed that it will not be an adaptation of the books, but rather Roland's final journey, I said what the heck, might as well take it for what it is.

1. The Dark Tower

2. The Dark Tower

3. The Dark Tower

4. I think Gerald's Game and It will be sort of middle of the road, good but not outstanding or really special. But it's hard to predict these things. You can only base it on earlier films of the directors. I liked Oculus, it's scary and works well, but it is not truly outstanding (haven't seen Flanagan's other films yet). Mama (Muschietti's earlier film) I have seen a long while ago, but it didn't impress me at the time, I remember it wasn't scary at all.
But I think The Dark Tower will be something really special, it looks like a big action fantasy blockbuster of a film and we haven't really seen something like that from a King adaptation. I think it may do very good business if it's released against no other big blockbusters and win many new fans. It's really one of the most exciting trailers I have seen for a King film, even unfinished.

Of course, I HOPE they all will be great, but that's not what a thread like this is about.

1922 will be fantastic if it's don right as will Geralds Game. These are really simple stories well told. That is all you need. DT I am very apprehensive about. It will either be fantastic or craptastic. I really can't get my head around why they are starting in the middle. As for IT, I don't like the look of Pennywise, but it could work out.
