I'm sure we've all seen this by now, but I'm wondering what type of clues might reside in this list. Something tells me this list was released for a purpose . . . the question is, why? Of course, it wouldn't be the first time I've over-analyzed something, but I just have a feeling there is some message hidden in there somewhere. Otherwise, why release it now?

Can't say there's a clue there, but King said some of these people might play a part in Finders Keepers somehow, so I guess that's the reason why he published the list.

I know I'm curious why a 14 YO was there. Can't get a job & name doesn't match any of the adults.

...but the surname "Munson" has to be a nod toward his love of baseball....

Or his love of the movie Kingpin! Maybe the kid was dropped off at the job fair, "munsoned," you know-up the creek without a paddle! (If you haven't seen the movie, you're gonna think I finally cracked!)

Thurman Lee Munson (June 7, 1947 – August 2, 1979) was an American Major League Baseball catcher. He played his entire 11-year professional baseball career for the New York Yankees (1969–1979). A perennial All-Star, Munson is the only Yankee to win both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards.
    Born in
Akron, Ohio, Munson was selected as the fourth pick of the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft. Munson hit over .300 in his two seasons in the Minor Leagues, establishing himself as a top prospect. He became the New York Yankees' starting catcher late in the 1969 season. Munson played his first complete season in 1970, and was voted A.L. Rookie of the Year after hitting .302.
Considered the "heart and soul" of the Yankees, Munson was named the first team captain since
Lou Gehrig. He led the Yankees to three consecutive World Series appearances from 1976 to 1978, and two consecutive World Series championships from 1977 to 1978.
Munson died at age 32 while practicing landing his
Cessna Citation at Akron-Canton Airport. Munson suffered a broken neck as result of the crash, and his cause of death was asphyxiation. His two companions escaped the burned aircraft.

How sad! Thanks for the lesson. You're from Ohio too, right? Is that part of the reason you're a big fan?

On page 24 of Mr. Mercedes, Brady mentions a few details about a few victims.

...a big fan of Munson?....not really, I respect him for the great that he was, and his tragic early exit-but yeah, as far as locale in a novel-even an ephemeral one...

I too thought it interesting that this list was released now an immediately thought there must be some clues/message in there somewhere. :umm:

  20. Walter Oobleck

Walter Oobleck keeps coming back...or going, and going, and going

The list must mean the next-of-kin have all been notified. They don't usually release the names of victims unless that's been done. Probably sent Andy Clutterback...beck?...by, in Christine. Christine pulls to the curb by your house you know that's bad news, Andy gets out, looking official and concerned. I wonder who the other guy was, that was staring at Janice and her baby. Keith was one of them, right? maimed and 19. Wonder who t'other'n was...Kenn Gautier, 18 maybe...Walter Munson, 14? Or maybe t'other'n got away, clean like. Had a sense that the city is on one of the big lakes...or one of the smaller ones, wasn't there something about a...carrier? as in ore carrier? Could be a carrier disguised as an SUV, we got those now, too. I don't have a handle on the relationships of the ladies...Ollie, Jane, Elizabeth...other than all blood. Sisters cousins...not a big deal.
