When I decided to read sK I chose novels which had been made into movies which I'd liked, such as The Shining, Misery, and Needful Things. If there's something sK-related which seems to strike home to you like the movies did for me, I think those would be good choices for you.

Thanks, blunthead! That's interesting! I saw Misery and I love that movie! I'll definitely check the book out! Believe it or not, I've only seen the beginning of the The Shining and I am (im)patiently waiting until Netflix brings it back, haha. Haven't seen Needful Things. I've seen Carrie and enjoyed that, as well, so I will definitely check the book out.

I saw Dreamcatcher...and I didn't like it. Hopefully, the book is a different experience.

Lucky you Amanda, all those "virgin" novels waiting to be read, you are spoilt for choice but as you have been so "drawn" to the Dark Tower series, then perhaps "Insomnia" which also has links to the dastardly Crimson King?

Hi, and thank you! I'll definitely it out! :D (There is no greater feeling than discovery new books and/or authors! :)

Welcome to the Board. Just grab the first one in line in the bookcase. I love mostly all of King's novels and short stories. Some I think are the best. Others just a good read. Some are hard to put down. Some were just okay. Depends on your taste, I suppose. Even the ones that were not necessarily, IMO top drawer, I never gave up on. I certainly don't regret reading everything.

Hi Sharon! Thanks for the welcome! Very true. I think that I might I do that and start with the SK that I have access too. With the DT books, I took a leap of faith and bought all of them (books 1-4 in the box set, and 5-6 separately, but I'm surprised that books 1-7 are not in a set already). Fortunately, I do not regret this decision because now I have the joy of re-reading them, haha. Anyway, I usually buy books or request them from library. Sometimes when I read a book that I got from the library, and I liked it so much, I wish I bought it so I can refer to it later, haha. I feel like if I start with The Stand first, I'll definitely need to buy it! (And there's no way I can read a 1000+ book in a three week period, hahaa)
Thanks, again!

Welcome Amanda. How exciting! You are discovering the world of Stephen King and are able to discuss the stories with your Dad! Do you like short stories, novellas or novels in general? You could check out descriptions of each to see what sounds interesting. View attachment 3154

Aw, thank you! It was really cool learning that my Dad likes! I found all his books in our basement in a box, and he forgot about them! I asked HIM which one I start with and he told me, "They're all good!"

To answer your question, I'm more of a novel person, but I don't mind short stories! I have Night Shift on my list, as well! Thanks, again!

That is a good one. Another one I think you'd really enjoy is Skeleton Crew. Great stories in that one.

I'm impressed at how quickly you've read them. You must truly be living in MidWorld in your head at the moment. I know I was, but it took me 2 years to get through them. Welcome! My suggestion for your next read would be 11/22/63 - I loved it so.

I wonder if Eyes of the Dragon would be another good one? It's a bit more of a light reading book and there are some connections to DT series in there too, I do believe!

Excellent suggestion, honey! Oddly, one of the reviewers I read on 11/22/63 remarked about how it had the same "feel" to them as the Dark Tower series. And that's the only reason I picked up The Gunslinger. I'd avoided it since 1987. But of course I loved it.

Thank you! Haha, currently I am! I'm trying to pace myself, but I can't quite put the books down! Once I'm into something, I just can't stop ;) Thanks for the suggestion! Oooo, this is one of SK's most recent publications? The description sounds totally trippy! Historical fiction is a great genre.
