I'm prepping my first of The Mad Logophile series and can't seem to settle on a cover. Do I go simple but eye-popping:

Or use an image:

I'm going to re-arrange the words in the title, probably to: The Mad Logophile: In Pursuit of Words, Political Words and Phrases

Feedback of any kind is welcome. I intend this to be a series with upcoming topics like: Slang (old, new and in between), The Queen's English, Words We Misuse, etc. Based on the columns I used to do at Daily Kos.

Thank you!

How about red?

Commie! ;)

If you're leaning towards a minimalist look, what do you think it would look like if you played with the blue, red, white and black combination from this iconic image. That color combination screams 'politics' to me. Seeing a book with that color combination might not get me to buy it, but it would elicit a second look. And although it's true you can't judge a book by its cover, you often buy one because of it. (Also consider different fonts)

Good luck with your endeavor, Tery.

Wow. Great idea! Superb! Thank you :)

This is the first of many in the series but there's no reason I can't have every cover be a different cover.

Dio's suggestion:
I think you'd have to lighten up the tones--it's difficult to read the text at a glance, particularly that in the top of the red. I still like the yellow better. On kindle, a cover has to be eye-catching because so many people are seeing a 'thumbnail' at the bottom of a page, on their Kindle, on their phone, etc.

I've often picked up a book, browsing - just because of it's cover. I like the blue tones. The yellow one I would pass by with an annoyed look. (say sorry)

The font on books catches me as well.

sigh. Guess this is why they call it 'marketing'

How bout the font? That catches me too.

More important, when I found an interesting cover, and a new author -

I would read the first two sentences and flip to a random paragraph. It seemed to work for me.
I usually go the back of the dust cover and read what someone has written about the book. I have a feeling Tery’s book will be slanted to the liberal side. Therefore I think she should have a Conservative author skewer the book. The Left will love it because they like nothing more than making the Right crazy, and some on the Right will read it just to see what is so terrible. (That’s why I watch MSNBC, and visit Salon and the Daily Kos. :))
