And now we have one, thank you. (I have moved your thread from the Suggestion Box to Chattery Teeth.)

pic.jpg To all of our soldiers standing post or walking point somewhere far away from home while I'm safe in my house this weekend, please know it's because of you and that I don't forget or take it for granted. Fast is slow, slow is smooth, front sight focus, discipline and control. You are remembered.

To the fallen, we salute you.

My dad was in during Korea but stationed in Japan, I was post-Vietnam, my son was between-Gulf Wars. We did not face actual combat, and I feel that we were extraordinarily fortunate that way.

When 9/11 happened, my son wanted to go back and re-enlist in the Corps, but his new wife and new baby girl dissuaded him. A few years ago, he did some checking, and from the unit he'd left behind when he was discharged, over 30 guys he'd known had bought their little piece of real estate in foreign lands.

We honor those who gave everything they had to offer, violently cut their young lives short in service, and yearn for the day when such things are past us.
