In your mirror.
Good Monday evening.

I thought I knew all about microwaves and how to use one. Nope.

My toaster died and I decided to heat up a strawberry Pop Tart in my microwave. 45 seconds. 45 SECONDS!!! The strawberry filling caught the tart part on fire.

Have you had a microwave disaster? Tell us about it.

Well, I've had my spaghetti blow up all over the inside. That's a mess.

When my oldest son was about 11, he and some friends (twin brothers) decided to melt a LEGO in their home microwave. I have never smelled such a stink! My husband picked him up from his friends' house, and his truck stank of it for a month. I can only imagine how bad their house smelled! The boys were the tail end of a family with 7 or 8 kids, twins for the first 2 and last 2, so maybe their mom had seen it all by then.

Very similar to Siggy-- picture early morning at a before and after child care center. Co worker decides to "toast" pop tarts in microwave- "it"s faster". It catches on fire, she opens the micro door setting off the fire alarm. Fire trucks arrive within minutes. Kids thought it was great. Director did not.

Re heating broccoli soup. One minute on High-- explosion occurs. It took forever to scrub that stuff out of the microwave.

You have probably heard of this one, but a great way to clean the inside of a messy microwave is to put a cup of hot water with about a teaspoon of lemon juice in the microwave. Boil it for a few minutes until the whole interior is steamy - really loosens the dirt!

I just recently purchased a cup from Starbucks - I thought the paint on it looked like gold paint but figured it was unlikely.

The first time I tried to reheat a hot drink - wow! Sparks everywhere!

:wha:

We have not had a microwave for probably 30 years.

However, when I was a student we had a non-microwave oven based disaster.

We were having a house party in a shared house and decided to hide soem of our food supplies in case anyone got "inexplicably hungry" later on into the evening. So we tucked away various cans at the back of the oven(corned beef, tinned soup etc.) Anyway someone did get "inexplicably hungry" and so swithced on the oven and put in some jacker potatos.

Needless to say about 40 minutes later there was a reasonably loud explosion from the kitchen and the tin contents were plastered everywhere.

I hate it when you forget there is something still in there and put the oven on to preheat - you normally only realize it once the weird smell hits you!

;-D My mom tried this once. Her reasoning was, it was covered with water, so it'd be ok. Looked like a lighting storm inside the microwave!
I tried three different times.....
First try, I just put the egg in by itself. Three seconds later, it exploded.
Second try, I covered it with water. Five seconds later, it exploded.
Third try, I poked little holes in each end and covered it with water. Five seconds later, it exploded.
My house smelled for a week! :facepalm_smiley:
