I've read this book several times, as it is one my favs. I've just bought the audio unabridged version, and have noticed something. In the chapter when Mike and his dad are talking about the Bowers, Will Hanlon makes the comment about Henry Bowers being at Mike's school, and Mike reflects on the bullying nature of Henry. Later in the book it's made clear that Mike attends a Baptist school - which is why none of the Losers know him - he doesn't go to the same school as they or Henry do . I don't have a hard copy of the book to hand, and rewinding on Audiobooks is a bit tricky - has anyone else noticed this? Or have I missed something?

Yup, good catch! Stuff like that just happens sometimes. :) I noticed in my recent reread of Pet Sematary a wild inconsistency — can't remember it exactly, but essentially Rachel's age and the year she and Louis got married simply don't add up, unless the two got married when she was, like, 14. IIRC, they were apparently married in 1965, the story is set in 1983, and Rachel is said to be thirty in the present day. Stuff like that sometimes just slips through. In that case, I'm sure King meant '75, not '65.

I'm in awe of anyone who can keep so many plots and characters in sync like SK can. My fav slip is a short story, about a guy who gets bitten by a Peruvian Boomslang while on a golf course. SK said he just loved the sound of the name Boomslang. But Boomslang is just Afrikaans for tree snake.

it's just one of those things that happens. there's a character in needful things who changes religion at least a couple times, and there's a few other small things like that (i can't recall without a reread, but they usually jump right out at me for having noticed them before). usually the inconsistencies are rather minor and don't really hurt the story. he's crazy good at holding details together for 1000 pages or more. but it can be interesting to notice little things like that. it at least means you're absorbing the details of the story well

I like the small inconsistencies as often they allow you to see how the writer evolves the plot. Sort of like a glimpse into the engine room, as it were.

Mike, Henry and Stanley. The only characters that remembered IT and that affected them in different ways. When Stanley confirms that IT is alive he commits suicide, when Henry sees IT again he wants to take revenge while Mike is the only one who accepts the event normally and prefers to stay in Derry having a humble job
