This went sideways rather quickly. In my humble opinion chief4db was referring to someone at the top of the book event, not Mr. King or Ms. Mod. That being said, I have seen GNTLGNT interject in the past and he is usually bang on in his assessments, so I could be wrong here. As far as the 17 year old girl comment from Machines Way, that was rather uncalled for. You could have sent GNTLGNT a side post showing your support, rather than the insult. We are all fans of Mr. King and also, from what I have observed, a unique collective of big-hearted, humble, compassionate, and sympathetic folks who are quite accepting of others. All the best to all of you. Peace, mal.

I feel like the post in general was uncalled for. And I stand by my comment. I was not calling the guy a girl, but referring to his use of numbers as words and the way the post reads. Full of errors and incomplete sentences. Something I see from teenage girls AND boys when they text. There is that better?

I also feel that this guy is attacking every one involved with this event, from the people who set it up to the book shop owners / managers. I believe "Idiotic decision" was his words. All because HE was ill prepared.

When you make a post like that in this forum you should expect some backlash.

I truly do wish this fellow got the tickets he desired. But he didn't, and that is no ones fault but his own. No need to blame everyone including the parking spaces.

After all the years of doing this I've come to the realization that no matter what we do or how a book tour appearance is set up, there will be complaints so pretty much let them roll off. As others pointed out, on line ticket sales wouldn't have necessarily been any better opportunity. The Tulsa event with an 1,100 seat venue sold out in about 2 minutes. The Nashville event with 2,400 seats only took a little over 20 minutes. Granted no one had to drive to the venue but as mentioned, a little research into other event ticket sales and discussion here could have saved the travel time or made clear that expecting to show up 2 hours before an event and get a ticket was not likely.

We do ask for some things but for the most part let the local venue run it as they see fit for their community. In this case, Penguin Bookshop was hoping to have as many local people as possible attend since it was a smaller venue and this was a once-in-a-lifetime event for them. Here's a pic of what the line looked like at 10 PM the night before so you can imagine what it must have looked like two hours before tickets went on sale:

All I can say is some people are just flatass crazy. I was talking about getting tickets in the comments of a FB post from local media about the event, and now my FB message box is full of people offering ridiculous amounts of money for my second ticket. Not going to happen, of course, but why the heck would anyone think it was appropriate to throw money at a stranger for a ticket?! Mr. King is a rockstar--lol. (BTW, in reference to the comment on the other thread about kids not being interested in Mr. King's books: almost all of the messengers are mid-20s or younger. Maybe kids had a hard time realizing that deadlines ARE real and you CAN miss out by not being on time :p)

I was teasing him last week when I was giving him an update on the Nashville event and letting him know about the others selling out and told him he was a rockstar. :D

Trust me, online only would be horrible. I can't count the number of times I've missed opportunities to see Sai King because of online madness. :D Tickets and signed books on Cemetery Dance sell out so quick I have to wonder if I am on a different internet than everyone else. Honestly, it feels like I must be on an old modem because I will start trying to buy as soon as announced and I still lose out. :D At least with long lines, I have a fighting chance. The simple truth is that King has the same effect as a Rock Star when these things are announced. That puts us all in the unfortunate position of being desperate crazy shoppers fighting for things on Black Friday. Sure it is frustrating but if it wasn't like this, then he wouldn't be a literary Rock Star. Just try to be patient and laugh it off. If it makes you feel any better, I actually live in the same town as him and I'm no more likely to see him than you. :D

Has anyone driven past in a silver/grey Mercedes? I'd for sure BOLO for that if I was in that line. Some folks will do anything to get better seats. Sorry, but my sense of irony got the better of me.

I noticed that the OP of this thread is offering to pay quite a bit more for a ticket in the Buy/Sell thread.
