I was suspicious about how great this book was going to be. A substantial part of the stories were not new or exclusive. They've been out for months or years. From the new ones - that I haven't read - only "The Dune" captured my attention. The rest was extremely bland and uninspired.

Of the four I've read- Obits is by far the best- the others I was lukewarm on

Not exactly sure if this constitutes a spoiler per se but:
You read almost every day in the news about someone doing some inexplicable evil act. You have to wonder if these people are simply wired differently or if anyone is capable of such things. In many instances, they otherwise might be seemingly normal people who just happened to hack granny to pieces one weekend. Those kinds of random acts of extreme cruelty are difficult to rationalize. More frightening than in King's story because there often is no apparent cause or incentive except to cause harm. The monetary incentive in King's story is one that most people can at least understand. But these events often happen in real life for the sake of doing harm. That's what I find more disturbing.
