This is really a disturbing book even though it's fiction. A truly harrowing account of how an innocent young girl can be turned into a drug addict, heavy drinking promiscuous young woman. Jennifer Lynch (David Lynch's real daughter) wrote this book and did a lot of research by interviewing girls who had been sexually abused by an adult in their young lives. She said it was heart breaking to hear their stories. I remember reading this while the show was still on and they hadn't revealed the killer's identity yet and I knew from the clues in the book who it was but I didn't realize the true meaning of what was happening until the big 'reveal'. It was shocking.

The Exorcist. The book and movie. Probably tame by today's standards, but as a preteen (when the book was published in 1971 & the movie released in 1973) this was one wild, disturbing ride that stays with me to this day.

The Girl Next Door or Victim. Both well-written, and I'll never read either again. A Child Called It disturbed me (I didn't finish it), but the aftermath was worse: 3 more books about child abuse, that readers lapped up. What that says about people is what is the most disturbing. Torture porn. No bueno.
