Star Wars Episode III

I think people bunched it in with the other prequel films which I thought were bad, but I thought episode III was a solid film that was worthy of the original trilogy.

I do agree with that, but I also think that people were so set back with the disappointment of I and bogged down with the forgettableness of II that it got lost. But it was the most pleasing of the first three for me. I thought they did the intro to the next one (the original one, originally I, now IV, but who's counting) quite well.

I thought most people liked that film? It was a one of the best films of that decade.

Everybody loves that movie.

Don't they ?

They should.
Not a lot of folks liked it when it was released. It had some harsh criticism thrown at it. It is a movie that asks its audience to watch intently and to think, which the general movie going public doesn't want to do- they'd rather have everything spoon-fed to them. It is now considered one of Lynch's finest films and shows up on alot of critic's 'best' lists. Go read some of the comments on Amazon- alot of them just don't 'get it'.

I presume a lot of people didn't like Mulholland Drive, though, due to it's strangeness, and that the ending takes, to say the least, some figuring out. I think the same about Magnolia and Inland Empire, which are both very unusual.
I've watched Inland Empire about 8 or 10 times and still don't really understand it. But, I like that in a movie- the enigmatic effect.

Yes. Exactly my reaction to Memento. When it was done, I said to Grandma, "It made me think the whole time. It kept my brain engaged." And honestly, we usually go to movies to unengage our brains, but Memento was a most welcome break.

Our friends didn't feel the magic, though. Perhaps it was a mood thing.

I guess I need to get out of the critic's echo chamber where that film is adored. It is a great film.

I tend to trust Roger Ebert's opinions, which are still available at his website, and I listen to the opinions of other laymen like me. Mostly I look for anything atypical and especially in the thriller genre, which sometimes includes scifi and the supernatural.

Rock of Ages. I seem to be a part of a very small fan club when it comes to that one. And yes, I will sing along to the whole damn thing.
Cloud Atlas. Ran across this one day on TV, and loved it. Never have heard it talked about though, so no idea of it's popularity--or lack thereof.
Riddick. All of the live action ones, anyway. Riddick is a personal hero, but every time I mention the movies, the first thing people say is: "But Vin Diesel is gay!" (my response, who cares???)
Tremors. The first one. That still holds the crown for best B-movie/creature feature out there.
"Stampede, Earl!"

Inception. Alot of people just don't get it. Even Stephen King said it was confusing but he liked it.

I knew my husband would not like this (he HATED Vanilla Sky) so my kids kept bugging me to watch it so went over my oldest son's apartment to watch it. I really enjoyed it! Crazy busy movie, but challenging and interesting. I'd love to watch it again sometime because I know I missed stuff....
