Horror used to be my go to, but lately (last 10 years) I haven't seen anything of quality. I've seen some okay stuff...spy thrillers have been catching my attention (even some of the old ones) lately. Ben Affleck has had some good films lately (he and his brother). Just sticking mainly to older movies now (comedy, horror, drama, dark drama).

Did you see "The Babadook?" Not heavy on gore, but I found it to be very effective and well-paced.

I love movies, but even though I'm a 40 yr old mom I hate chick-flicks and rom-coms. And you couldn't pay me to watch Magic Mike or 50 Shades.
If I had to pick one category as my favorite, I'd say suspense.

I prefer sci-fi, horror, and action but I can like just about everything, depending mainly on story ( I can even overlook cheap budgets and bad acting if the story is decent) --- and there's even some "chick-flix" that I have really liked

Just watched it. It was pretty damn good. I didn't care for the ending BUT at least it wasn't predictable and it did make sense with the storyline. What really made the movie good was Essie Davis (Mom) and Noah Wiseman (the son). Not only were both of them good actors/actress (the kid looks like an 8-year-old Mick Jagger lol) but they had excellent chemistry. I also dug the use of greys, whites, and blacks to emphasize the point of the story (not to give away any spoilers).

I used to go to the Saturday arvo matinee and watch the Swedish movies. The weirdest double feature movie I went to was at the art house movie theatre near Hyde Park in Sydney where I saw Pumping Iron and the Song Remains the Same back in 1980. Right. I like the most movies except musicals like that Eddie Albert guy who always played a Canadian Mountee. Right. I like westerns sci-fi horror I don't really like comedy anymore because most of it ain't funny. I like Count Yorga and I saw my father he used to leave me at the cinema when I was five and he would go for a few drinks at Kings Cross so I saw Dirty Harry when I was six and stuff like that. Right.
